curtain length? UPDATED with some pics, still undecided
How many inches are your curtains from the floor? I need 90 inches, but I can only find 84 inch or 96 inch length. I measured the 90 inch with about 3 inches above where the window starts.
What to do?

Re: curtain length?
Definitely don't get them too short. I would go with the longer length and keep it one inch on the floor. If you have to, you can have them hemmed.

Re: curtain length?
If you don't have baseboard to worry about I would go longer and have them pool or hem them.
i had to put my curtains higher since we have baseboard and i wanted them not to cover the boards (did that prior to renn and we found it to block the heat considerably) So our curtains just touch the baseboard if not slightly hang over. I completely do not notice it at all since we put furniture in front of most of the windows (with about a foot clearance for heat)
the longest I picked was 82" and my rods are about three-four inches from the crown and I have 8ft ceilings.

Re: curtain length?
I would buy the 96" curtains. Either go higher if you can with the rod, let the puddle on the floor or hem them to 1" off the floor. I like when they hang just above the floor. This way they don't get that dirty or get sucked up when vacuuming.

Re: curtain length?
Thanks for your help! I can go a little higher to get the length to the floor, but I am now confused which length to get b/c of the radiator.
The living room has a bit of a strange window situation.
You can see the window to the left has a radiator below it. I don't have to turn that radiator on as there is another one, so I was going to do both to the floor. Does that sound right? The left window has blinds so if I didn't put curtains there wouldn't it look strange to have one side with curtains and the other with only blinds?
The bedroom windows are similar to the left LR window.
However there is only one radiator in this room and in the winter I don't want to lose this heat if I got curtains straight to the floor. I assume the curtains would block the heat from coming out. What length would you do for these windows?
I am not sure of how the heating bills are in Germany, but I have heard it isn't cheap.
Thanks, can you tell I've never done curtains before?

I think in the LR you should do the same length for the left window as you're doing for the right (full length) especially if you don't have to have that heater on. You can always get longer curtains and hem them to the right length for where you want the rod to be. It will look more uniform that way.
In the Bedroom, i'd opt for the 63" (or whatever comparable length) length curtains that would basically run the full length of the window but not go much below.
Not only do you not want to block heat, but i'm also always concerned with the fabric heating up from the heater and potentially catching fire.

Re: curtain length? UPDATED with some pics, still undecided
i like when they are long - i'm not sure if it's bad to have the curtain hanging over the heater (i guess you could move the curtain over when it's on?) but i would do both long - either just grazing literally right above the floor or puddled on the floor....i like how long curtains accentuate a window making them look bigger and walls taller...
i have curtains over my sliders and they are just touching the floor in some spots and in others they are just grazing - i don't know if it's because the panel is uneven, if my floor isn't 100% level or if it has something to do with the bar (you can't notice it unless you look for it though)
i don't really like when they left long but sit too high off the floor....mine are just about on the floor...when i vacuum it is easy because they don't get sucked up and i don't have to lift them since they just touch the floor and aren't puddled...i loved puddled but with my dog they would be gross and the style of curtain i have probably wouldn't look right that way anyways - my curtains are very casual...

We did the same thing because of the baseboards, and because the windows happen to be near entryways and anything that touches the ground gets dirty so much quicker in these areas.
Had it NOT been for these issues, I would have mine touching the ground though because I prefer that look. The practicality just doesn't work where we have them.

Re: curtain length? UPDATED with some pics, still undecided
OK, this is what I would do if this was my home. I only made the curtains in this picture blue so you could see them well enough in the photo. I just throw it together, so I hope it helps you.
Since you have blinds on the left window in the Living Room, you can just leave the curtains to the sides of the windows like I have it in the picture. Do you need your curtains just for looks or do you need them for warmth? As far as I know, heaters do no produce enough heat from them to them to catch on fire, but I could be wrong. I have my curtains to the floor and over base board heating and I have never had a problem, even if they have been closed all the way. So if you don't need them for warmth, I would just do some panels on each side of the windows.
In the bedroom you can do the same thing, all the way to the floor, but if you must close these curtains and it's your only source of heat for that room, then no I would not put them to the floor. I would hang them a couple of inches above the window frame and have them end just at the heater. I still think it would look nice. ETA: if you can put the curtains to the floor and just put up a shade for privacy, then that is what I would do. Just hang the rod about 12 inches from the window frame on each side. This way the curtains wouldn't be in front of the heater.
GL. I hope I have helped in some way.

Re: curtain length? UPDATED with some pics, still undecided
Thanks all for your help, especially the pics to visualize how it would look.
I need the curtains for privacy and shades aren't really an option as my kitties are really annoying if they can't look out the window . With curtains they could go under them and sit on the sill.
It's on the ground floor and you can see right in so they will probably remain closed for the most part. I could get away with just using the blinds in the LR b/c then the cats can use the other window, but with the bedrooms, they will destroy shades.
Thanks!
