cute ways to announce the gender?
We will probably find out the gender next Thursday. We are having a mini GTG with close family Saturday afternoon and tentatively plan to do the whole cake filling blue/pink thing to surprise them. We are also asking people to wear blue or red/pink with their gender guess.
We are thinking about going out to dinner that night with friends to share the news and would like a cute way to announce to them too, if we don't just invite close friends over to the family reveal. (we would also ask friends to wear the color of their gender guess).
ILs live OOS and we will likely tell them via video chat. Any cute ways to surprise them?

Grab some of those bubble gum cigars from Party City (in either blue or pink), put one in an envelope/mini gift bag for each guest....during/after dinner pass them out to the guests, telling them not to open until everyone has one....then have them open all at once!
If you're doing dinner at your house, you could make cupcakes for dessert, and ice them with pink or blue colored icing....keep them covered until dessert...then when you have everyone's attention...have someone lift off the cover and reveal the icing color!
As for your IL's, if you're on video chat, what about something on a covered platter, then uncover it when they're on chat?
Or maybe you could send them something that they are NOT to open until they are on video chat with you...then they can open it while you're there (If you think they will be able to not open it beforehand!)

I love the surprise package idea, but we will probably tell them Thursday when we find out so we don't really have time... hmmm.... maybe we will decorate a goofy tshirt for DH that says "its a girl!" or "its a boy!" and have DH pop out wearing it. or uncover something....

Someone on here had posted about baking a cake and making the filling either pink or blue and having someone cut it open

We are going to do a cake or cupcakes and have the filling be pink for a girl or blue for a boy! Once they are cut open everyone will find out.....including DH and I!!
We are going to have the Dr. write Boy or Girl on 2 pieces of paper sealed in an envelope. We will then give one to the bakery and DH and I will have one so that we can confirm that the bakery got it right!

Thats what we are planning for my family, but looking for some other ideas for surprising friends and ILs

with baby #1, i had a "chick magnet" blue bib under my shirt and lifted it up at the dinner table
with baby #2, I made a red velvet cake for V-day and filled it with blue icing
