Cutting toddlers toenails

DS fights me so hard on this. There is no way he is going to be able to wear sandals at this rateChat Icon

Ive tried in the tub, after the tub with the tv on, nothing seems to be working. I dont know if its bc he is very ticklish. I cant do it while he sleeps.

Any suggestions?

Dd fights too - sometimes DH holds her down. I was somehow able to just get it done on my own today - Just told her - Sorry, you don't have a choice, but I'll make it really quick! Had her on the diaper changer, holding her foot. I'm still surprised I could do it!

Re: Cutting toddlers toenails

My son's only 14 months, but he also doesn't like it much, especially his big toes. I do it when he's in his highchair, with the tray on so he can't see. He knows what's going on, obviously, but he fights me less.

my DD LOVES music videos, so I put them on and she's on my lap watching while I cut. Works like a charm!!!!

Re: Cutting toddlers toenails

DS moves alot and gives me a hard time when I try to cut his. One reason is because he is tickelish. I try to do it as fast possible and give him toys to play with.

Re: Cutting toddlers toenails

I give him a lolipop and this makes him less squiggly. Also if you think it is because he is too sensitive my doc gave a suggestion of (when they have a sock on) put an ice pack on their toes for a minute or two. It dessensitizes the nerve and seems to do the trick. HTH

DD hates me cutting her toenails more than ANYTHING in the world. It's a nightmare anytime I attempt it. So, honestly, I do it as infrequently as possible and have no tricks that work other than me and DH restraining her in a body lock. I hate it!!!

Re: Cutting toddlers toenails

In this department my husband is a genius. Madelyn used to give me the HARDEST time cutting her toenails. One day I threw up my hands and said, "FORGET IT- let her have cornchips for toenails, I'm DONE."

5 minutes later I hear my husband saying, "Hold it still, I can't see...." I go in her room to find the blackout shades drawn and Madelyn sitting on her dresser holding a flashlight, shining it on her toes. With my husband effortlessly CLIPPING away.

It was remarkable.Chat Icon

we do the same....in the highchair and I usually give him something he loves to snack on....cheerios or puffs or something and then put on his fav show to completely distract him.

Isn't this so annoyingChat Icon My DH has this super-hero ability as well. Always when I'm struggling with something, he swoops in like it's a piece of cake and I stand there in amazement , like I'm eating crazy pills Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've been really lucky when it comes to cutting DD's nails (or washing, brushing, styling her hair, lol) . Even when she was really little she never gave me a hard time .
She is 2.5. All I have to say is "time to cut your nails!" she jumps on a sofa and sits there nice and quiet while I'm cutting her nailsChat Icon She even asked me to paint her toe nails yesterday (while I was doing mine) she sat there so patiently , didn't move her feet while I was painting her toe nails Chat Icon

What about in the high chair? Give him something to entertain him, food/book, anything and then maybe he won't notice as much.

Otherwise, in the high chair with a favorite snack and the tv on.
