Cystic acne
I sometimes get cystic acne from hormone fluctuations. Anyone have any tried and true methods for preventing it or getting them to go on their way quicker?

I used proactive and it worked wonders for my skin. Once it cleared up and maybe a month or two more I stopped using it and just used a regular cleanser and moisturizer.

The only thing that has helped me is the new Proactiv. They old one worked but not as well as this one.

I used the repairing lotion, but I would only apply it to the specific area that had the cyst, not my entire face. It was way to drying for me to apply to my entire face.
I would wash my face with dove soap, then use the proactive toner on my chin and jaw line (that was where I had the cystic acne) and then I would apply the repairing lotion to the specific cystic acne spots. I did not apply the lotion daily, only when I had an actual cystic acne. I also used moisturizer (lancome). I also started to wear my hair in a ponytail so that it did not touch my face as the cut ends of my hair irritated my skin. I also changed my pillow case every three days. Note that the repairing lotion can bleach colorful pillowcases.
I am not sure what the new line features. I used proactive about 12 years ago. It really was as amazing as those commercials made it out for me. I hope that it works for you.
If you need other ideas - I would go to reddit/skincareaddiction. The members there have many wonderful suggestions to help you achieve clear skin.

I've been using the old proactiv formula for a very long time now and it's stopped working. For me, my acne is caused by PCOS. I've yet to find the perfect concoction of hormones to alleviate all of it but someone here once recommended tea tree oil to me. I ordered the small bottle from Body Shop and I will say it works VERY well.

Cystic acne responds best to a round of antibiotics and prescription topicals.
You don't want to gool around with it because it can cause permanent scaring.
I leaened that the hard way. 
I'd go to a dermo.

Thanks. In the past when I've asked the derm about, they said I just need to be patient. But patience has never been my strong suit. LOL

I have always seen my dermatologist for this (dealing with it for 19 years). That said, the only effective treatments were no longer options when I was pregnant with DD. That's when I discovered Mario Badescu's Buffering Lotion. It was the ONLY OTC thing that ever worked.
I'm baffled by a dermatologist who tells you to be patient when it comes to cystic acne. It can cause painful inflammation and scarring. I'd consult with a different dermatologist.

I was just about to say this. I've tried a bunch of different antibiotics and they work for a little bit but they cysts end up coming back. If they are so bad I go for a cortisone shot. Mine is hormonal.

I have the same problem - hormonal cystic acne. I've been on rx creams for years and am now doing another round of antibiotics (usually about once a year). I go for cortizone shots whenenver I get a big one. I haven't found anything otc that works. My derm did recommend and perscribed me spiralactadone (a water pill) for long term use but I was nervous to take it after reading the side effects.

I used pro activ for many years and then approaching 30 it stopped working as good. I just started using Rodan & Fields Unblemish line (by the docs who created pro activ) its for adult acne. works wonders for my friends

I was getting injections and now I'm on the pill. The only thing that works for me. These cysts can leave scars, it's awful.

Honey! I used to get cystic acne and the only thing that works is if i take honey (at bedtime) and really rub it in (for about a min so u need a good amount) it goes away in 2 days....it works even for regular pimples too!!
