cystic acne

Who's got it?

I can't take the minocyn to prevent it (works wonders) and I have to beg for an appointment for a shot....

Who's got some remedies, if any? These things are killer....

Re: cystic acne

Have you tried the topical stuff?
Differin works wonders for me- prevents it too.
I took the minocyclin until it cleared then maintained it with the Differin.

I used to feel not quite right on it! Kind of dizzy and off balance!
Not to mention the raging yeast infections! Chat Icon
But after being on it a few weeks I did adjust to it and I only had to stay on it for a month or so to clear it and then used the topical stuff to maintain it.

Re: cystic acne

Sorry if this is TMI, but I had severe cystic acne on my back for several years.....I was on Accutane, but could never be at the optimum dose because of how my triglycerides shot up to a dangerous level being on it......then I went for Smooth Beam laser treatments in Garden City ($1,200 for 4 treatments)....didn't work.....been on Minocycline for 2 years and that seemed to keep it under control.......especially when I coupled that with either Proactive or a prescription benzoyl peroxide topical cream...

I guess I "grew out of it", because now I rarely great breakouts and I'm not taking any medicine anymore.....but believe me, I know how SEVERELY embarassing and fustrating it is....

Re: cystic acne

I was taking 100mg a day once a day.

I can't use anything while TTC and had to stop the minocyn for a month before......

But I can get the shots periodically.

Minocyn was all that truly worked for me.....

no one has a miracle natural cure for me? Chat Icon Chat Icon

That's it! Dizzy and off balance! I feel like I am in a fog. Luckily no YI yet, but I've been eating yogurt like it's chocolate to keep them away.

Re: cystic acne

I used to have it really, really bad. Tried everything, then took Acutane, which to me was a miracle but did an aweful job on my body and skin. Stopped taking it, cured my acne for a long time, but now I'm breaking out all over again. I know it sounds harsh, but I've decided to just grin and bear it. That's just me.

That's me today!!! I have my BFs wedding on Saturday and have one already and another one brewing right next to it....I called my derm and begged that she find a spot for me.

And tell me WHY they have a nurse for the shots, but she's only there from 11-4?

Re: cystic acne

Omg, I used to get this in my mid 20's to my mid 30's.

I always had great skin.

I had no idea where it came from. I was told all kinds of things...stress, hormones, etc.

I had to get shots in my face to make them go down.

Then, we found out that my tubes were blocked and filled with fluid, so I had them removed.

I can't remember the last time I got one...

I truly believe that these came from infection in my body.

Re: cystic acne

The shots. However I never tried Accutane...I didn't want to be on something that could potentially work wonders and then have to stop it when I was TTC/pregnant.

I use some Murad products and they work sometimes...it's really around my hairline that is awful.

Re: cystic acne

I never really had cystic acne, but when I was younger I broke out a lot........

Now, my skin is nice with the use of Murad AND also La Vitton products. www.lavitton.com. It's all natural, organic oil-based cleansers that actually do not make you break out.

edit: egg yolk and white masks help with marks. egg white, a little lemon....wear for 20 minutes and wash off. Then, apply the yolk for 20. Only takes one egg!

I agree.

however- for the short term- for big ones, make a solution of VERY hot water with tons of salt in to- so it tastes like sea water and put that on the cyst. That will help it go down.
I know it sounds wacked but my Doc suggested it & it works.
Make it as HOT as you can take it.

Re: cystic acne

I, too, have tried everything. I am on minocycline (sp?) and take it twice a day. It does make me feel slightly out of it, but after a while, you get used to it. If I take it regularly (when I remember), I do believe that it works. However, I do still get the occasional cystic pimple and they are the WORST. Not only are they embarrassing, but they are painful!! I have tried Tea Tree Oil and use it occassionally, however, it doesn't do anything miraculous for me. I will go and get the shots when necessary. To be honest, I haven't found a CURE. I'm too nervous about going on accutane. I just hope I grow out of this at some point - we're adults, we shouldn't have to go through this!!

Let me know if you come across any miracle cures!! Chat Icon
