Dachshund Question
I am looking into adopting a Dachshund mixed breed puppy but I want to do my research first and make sure the breed is good with children because I have a 2.5 year old. The breed that is mixed with is known to be great with children but I know that it could get the personality of either breed.
Also I know there are different types of Dachshunds and with what I've found in my research so far they say different types of Dachshunds have different personalities. I am going to try to find out what type of Dachshund the mother was if they know. So I wanted to come on here and find out if any of you have had personal experience with them and children.
Thank you so much in advance.
ETA: If you don't recommend this breed please recommend one that is great with kids. I have been looking into Havanese, Shih Tzu's, and Cockapoo's as well.

Re: Dachshund Question
I don't have a dachshund but my husbands family breed them for years while dh still lived at home. They seemed pretty easy tempered. The bad thing about them is they don't train easy and they aren't as smart as larger breed dogs. I've had a lot of dogs over the years. The best dogs with kids that I've seen are German shepherds (great watch dog, extremely protective and very gentle with children). We are actually going to get another German shepherd puppy in the fall. The other dog is a lab they are amazing with children and very easy to train. I also suggest getting a female dog as they seem to have more of a motherly instinct. We had a cocker spaniel and a westie I wouldn't recommend those with kids they can be snappy and are very yappy.

Re: Dachshund Question
Thank you so much for your response. Those definitely are great breeds, the only thing is I don't have a fenced yard and I know those breeds need a lot of exercise. Do you think that they would be ok with daily walks being their only form of exercise?

Re: Dachshund Question
I have a mini dachsund and 4 kids and together they have had their ups and downs. Smaller dogs do nip more and there have been some times where bite marks have been left. The dog doesn't have as much patience with the kids as a larger dog would but does love to play with the kids. FM me if you have more questions and good luck it is a big decision.
