Re: Dancing school
Lido Beach is about 30 minutes from Massapequa but this program looks really great. I am going to be calling them myself.
A new center for performing arts for special needs kids has opened in Lido Beach. Called the Theresa Academy of Performing Arts http://www.TheresaFoundation.org, the center offers classes in drama, ballet, tap dancing, hip hop, music and art.
The Theresa Academy of the Performing Arts (TAPA) believes that every child has strengths that can be used as a springboard to learn new skills which can enhance each child’s personal sense of accomplishment.
At TAPA, the teachers use a wide variety of teaching methods to accommodate all styles of learning:
Auditory Vestibular Emotional Intelligence The primary goal of the classes is for the children to experience the joy of dance, drama, art and music.
There are many other benefits to the children who participate including, improvement in coordination, overall fitness, focus, listening, balance, self-esteem, self-expression, rhythm and musicality. Siblings are also welcome to join.
The Theresa Foundation and the new performing arts center with the same name were founded in memory of Theresa Russo, beloved special needs child of Long Islanders Susan and Vinent Russo, who died in 1991. In addition to the new Academy of Performing Arts, the Foundation includes fundraising, grants, a newsletter, and special programs and events for special needs families.
Following is part of the mission statement of The Theresa Foundation: "A society without art is a society without soul. Art enables us to express our inner thoughts, fears, joys and sadness. Art is a powerful form of communication, whether it be written, danced, painted or sculpted. Our artistic expression tells us who we are, what is important to us, and how we relate to the world around us. The Theresa Foundation has a vision of the world where art and artistic expression are as important to adults as they are to children. We believe in a world where every child, regardless of ability or challenging conditions, is free to communicate through any art form available."
The Theresa Academy of Performing Arts opened in September, 2009 and is located at 250 Lido Blvd., Lido Beach. Visit the website or call 432-0020 for more information. .
