Daughter Has Two-Hour Delay Tomorrow
We are Pat-Med. I'm shocked as they're notorious for not closing often. I really don't see the point as the weather is supposed to be bad the whole day. Maybe they'll update later and close completely. Anyone else?

Re: Daughter Has Two-Hour Delay Tomorrow
We also have a 2 hour delay, as does another district around us. My son, along with most HS kids, gets on the bus in the 6am hour, and it's still dark. Combine that with the icing from freezing temps, and it's very dangerous for the kids to be at the bus stops.

Re: Daughter Has Two-Hour Delay Tomorrow
Most schools have announced 2 hour delays. They had 2 weeks off, they need to go back lol.

Re: Daughter Has Two-Hour Delay Tomorrow
I too think just a 2 hour delay is ridiculous. My weather channel app shows at 9am, which is when my DD normally has to wait for the bus, it will be 11 degrees. At 11am which is when she is now supposed to wait for the bus, weather channel shows 12 degrees. I am no scientist but I don't believe there will be a great thaw at 12 degrees. I am under the impression the concern is icy road conditions, rightfully so. So then, why are schools open at all? I already know I'm not taking my 4 y.o. to preschool and I may just trump my district and keep my elementary kid home for the day. I heard the other day that road salting doesn't work when temps are this low.

Re: Daughter Has Two-Hour Delay Tomorrow
The 2 hour delay is good for the high schoolers who are out there at 6:30 in the dark, cold morning.

Re: Daughter Has Two-Hour Delay Tomorrow
The transportation concerns are precipitating the 2 hour delays. They are going to have a more difficult time getting the buses running at that temperature. It's not just because the kiddies will be cold.

Diesel engines are VERY hard to start in the cold.

This is why we (Commack) had a 2 hr delay this morning. Mostly for the kids that have to wait at a cold dark bus stop. With the potential for icing, it would be even more dangerous for these kids to be standing out in the dark (and freezing cold). Once you delay the HS, the other schools have to do the same.
