Re: day care question - maternity leave?

I would probably see if they will hold his spot, but that is just me thinking of saving money and spending time with both DC.

Re: day care question - maternity leave?

For me, if the daycare was so far away, I would leave a deposit for both kids to save spots and keep DS home with me. About a week before I was to return to work I would start to bring both kids (assuming that DC#2 is going as well) for a week transition before I went back to work.

Re: day care question - maternity leave?

Ryan is getting pulled at the end of next month and both kids are enrolled to start up again in March.

I think it depends on the child's need for routine - Ryan doesn't really have one with daycare b/c he goes 2-3x wk b/t DH's schedule and ILs taking him here and there - so I didn't want to keep paying for it if they'll all be around anyway.

If I were you, I'd try to hold their spots for June and save yourself the $$, unless Luca is going to have a hard time breaking from routine.

it's not so much the $$ as saving myself from cracking under the pressure of taking care of a newborn and an 18 month old Chat Icon

i don't forsee a problem with them holding his spot. they would both be going back at the time that a lot of kids and teachers are off from school and not needing day care.

i guess i'll jump off that bridge when i come to it! Chat Icon

I know - believe me. I am def. getting a little nervous about this too which is why I'm hoping I get myself out more this time instead of staying in the house a lot like I did with Ryan. Try to start hooking up with some mommies on the PG board now due around your time so you girls can be on leave together and share the fun of the chaos Chat Icon

Also, once you're settled in the house - keep an eye out for maybe a local teenager who can be a mother's helper to you on occasion? Instead of spending $1500/mo. daycare, you could shell out a little here and there for someone to entertain DS during your leave.

You should ask about their "hold" policy. if they have a wait list they might not hold the spot for you and lose the money.
I would probably bring him 2 days a week after the first few weeks home..just to give you a break.
