daycare advice needed!! LONG

So, DD is in daycare at a center near my old job. Both STBX and I no longer work that close to there but live 10 miles away (which takes about 20 mins due to traffic). It's pretty inconvenient. She's been there since 3 months old and she loves it and they love her.

I've been planning to change her daycare since she's been 18 mos old (she's 21 months now) but the location (same company, different location) hasn't had an opening. This location is less than 5 miles away and pretty much has no traffic getting to it. Last I spoke to them they said they didn't expect an opening until March. Well, I just got a call they have an opening for January. Since they are the same company, I don't need to give notice at our current location. The price is higher but I knew that. I just picked up DD from daycare and she wasn't scheduled to return until January because of our vacation. Essentially, she just had her last day. Chat Icon

So my question is...do I transfer her now and have her start at the new location on Jan 4 or do I wait for another opening when I have more notice? The new daycare director said she would see if she could get her in in Feb. I asked if she could go to the old daycare for a couple days to say goodbye and then start at the new one on Jan 7. STBX thinks that will be harder for DD. I'm not sure if the abrupt change is going to be harder on me or her. WWYD?

Thanks.

No personal experience, my kiddo moved to TX and stayed home with family for a month then into a new daycare at 10mo old.

I would *think* that since youre out from now until Jan 4th its actually a better transition than if you take her back to 'say goodbye'. Kids are pretty resilient and I think she'll transition fine. But if you take her back it may be confusing. Your vacation is already in a way disrupting a routine but you're family its home and that's a routine for her too. To go back into the old daycare get one week of routine with the people she knows then to have her in a new place seems a bit much.

Sorry but that's just my honest opinion.

No matter what, I agree, its going to be harder on you than her

I think you're better off starting her off at the new center after the holiday 'break'. I think it would be more difficult and confusing to make the switch from one day to the next.

I would start her at the new center on Jan 4. She will adapt easily to her new environment (it might take a few days), and I think the transition will be harder on you than on her!
