Daycare Moms - Can you offer some suggestions for labeling everything?

I am in the process of getting everything set for daycare for DS (he starts Tuesday Chat Icon ). I have iron on labels for all his bibs, burp cloths, linens, etc. I also have the bumpy labels for his bottles.

I have 2 labeling questions:

1) Food labels. I need something that either comes off every day so I can apply a new one where I can write the date, contents, etc OR something that I can erase and rewrite on.

2) Spoons. We use the Gerber soft bite spoons and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to indicate that they belong to DS.

Help please!! I know I'm probably overthinking all of this but it's far easier to concentrate on this then on the fact that I'm not going to be with DS 24/7 in just a few days.

I use a sharpie on the food containers/bowls. Why do you have to write the date and what is in it though?

Spoons you can write on the underside of the handle with a sharpie.

Ah, yes - see, I knew I was overthinking the spoon thing Chat Icon

I don't know, it's annoying that I do have to but they require it. Name, Date, Bottle Contents and bottle # (like bottle 1, bottle 2, etc)

Ohh that would be annoying! We just put our names on them and everything gets taken home at night so no need for the date. I would call the daycare and ask what other people use because if you use a dry erase type thing, it would come off on the babies and I'm not sure what else there is!

for the bottles what about masking tape with a sharpie that way at the end of the day you peel off and start fresh the next day.

On DD's food I use the name labels that are microwave/dishwasher safe on the tupperware (bowl and top) or put a piece of tape and write on it with a sharpie. I also used the Gerber soft spoons and was able to fit the label on the handle. Otherwise just put a piece of tape on it and write DC name on it. You will have to redo it every day but it only takes a second.

Like someone else mentioned, I use a sharpie for her food bowls and spoons.

I ordered labels from Mabel's Labels online. They come in two sizes. I label more permanent things with these (bottles, cups, spoons). Otherwise I use a Sharpie marker.

For Lucas' food we don't have to be as detailed as your daycare requires but we do have to label things with names.

Food - I have of the glad containers (the smaller ones) with his name labels on them that are basically permanently like that until he no longer uses them. I put his food in there. When he was your son's age and eating baby food most of the containers had his name, the contents of the food, and the date I prepared them but that was more for me than daycare. I used the PTOUCH machine for those labels after making food. Those come off easily.

Spoons - Lucas uses the same Gerber spoons and I had round labels from stuck-on-you that have his name and I just wrapped them along the bottom of the handle.

I have labels from itsmineusa.com that stay on in the dishwasher and microwave. Love them! They stayed on his bottles for ayear with no problem and I was able to easily remove them when we were done with them. I tried sharpie in the beginning, but I got sick of it smudging and having to rewrite it every couple of days.

Re: Daycare Moms - Can you offer some suggestions for labeling everything?

For DS's food, we write in permanent marker on the jar his name and, if necessary, the date he should have that food. We have the Gerber plastic bowls with the lids and we write his name on the lid in the same permanent marker. Even though its a permanent marker, it does come off in the dishwasher so you'll have to rewrite it every once in a while.

For spoons, we have the same ones and I put them in Ziplock bags and write his name on the bag. I use specific colors that no other child uses and send him in with them every day.

We also send him with Cheerios and Gerber puffs which I put in a plastic storage bowl with his name on it and we refill it every week.

I know it can be hard for the first week, especially the first day. It does get easier...I promise! Chat Icon

I too use the Sharpie on some things. I also have one of those Brother P-touch labelers. I just use those. They stay on in the dishwasher for quite a while. When it starts peeling, I just put a new one on.
