Daycare moms - do you leave your child if he/she is the first one?
I always feel so guilty if he's the first one in his room. It rarely happens, but today I aimed to make a 8 something train so I brought him at 8AM and he was the first one there so I stayed and played there (literally nearly got stuck in their playhouse he likes) for 20-minutes until his friends arrived. Needless to say, I took a train closer to 9.
Anyone else feel guilty leaving your child first?

It's rare that it happens, but I do leave him.
The teachers are usually extra snuggly with him then. He gets to feed the fish and the bunny and play with whatever he wants.

Yes. They get to be the helper & do get extra attention. If you stay, you are setting an expectation for your child that you stay a little bit before leaving. It's fine when you're early, but not good if you're running late.

I know - but I'm always running late. I think I'm the only mom that doesn't do the drop and go - I do usually hang for at least 5 minutes to warm him up to the morning, introduce him to a toy that will distract him when I go, etc. But I try not to make a habit of doing 20-minutes on a daily basis
Usually, if he's first then the only teacher in the room is a woman from the infant room manning the room and she's not all that warm - so I guess my bigger issue is I don't really like her.

DD hasn't been the first child at day care in ages because I realized I don't have to leave that early anymore... but I always linger.
I am just not capable of the drop and go... except for the time that one of the dads offered me a ride to the subway - you would have taken the ride too!

Re: Daycare moms - do you leave your child if he/she is the first one?
Absolutely, for a few reasons. Most importantly, he still cries most days when I drop him off. At this age, he is used to being there, and it is mostly just a protest cry. The sooner I leave, the better it is for everyone, otherwise he just cries and hangs on me.
Second, I like that he gets a little one on one time with the teacher(s) before the other kids get there.
Third, he is up at 6am every. single. morning. I feel like if we linger too long at home, we get involved in something and end up running late instead. If I get an extra 20-30 minutes before work, I can run an errand that is much easier to do without bringing him. This saves me a lot of running around on the weekend, and gives me more time to spend with him on Saturday playing.

Re: Daycare moms - do you leave your child if he/she is the first one?
My DS is usually one of the first ones there - there might be another little girl, but she is very young, like 5 months. My DS usually cries when he is the first one, but I need to make a train, so I have to leave him. Daycare is great b/c they play with him and they tell me that he stops a minute after i leave. I wish I could stay and play but I have no choice.

I think its easier to leave him if he's first - b/c he has 100% attention of the teacher.

Seamus is the first one in in the morning and the last at night. My daycare is open 7am- 6pm I work 730-530. I feel so bad he is there that long, etc but I cant afford to stay in the morning because I have to get to work

Ah - that's a different issue altogether. I always had teachers that my kids would fling themselves into their arms so it worked out. There were those days with the tears & the crying, which absolutely breaks my heart. But I never felt guilty about it. I guess I think of it as we all have things we need to do to better our family.
But strangely enough, I do feel guilty if my kids were the last to be picked up now that they're older & are aware of it more.
