Daycare moms of infants

I am having issues with feeding and drop off time, I feel guilty bring the babies to daycare when they are just about due to eat. What do you do? Do i drop them off and let daycare feed them pretty much right when they get there, or do i feed them first and go to work up to an hour later? (I make my own hours but would like to start as soon as possible to leave at a decent hour... i work 10 hours per day at least.)

Re: Daycare moms of infants

When Logan was an infant DH would drop him off and it was the same thing - he was just about ready for bottle #2.

The first couple days were awkward, but then daycare got used to it and knew to plan for the first thing feeding.

Re: Daycare moms of infants

Thank you. That's another thing though, it won't be the same everyday since they are not STTN yet. they wake up a different time each day.

On monday they woke at 2 am, 5:30 am, and i dropped them off at 8.... They had to be fed at 8:30.

Today (not a daycare day) they woke up at 4 am, and then 7 am. So i would have been able to bring them there fed.

Ugh i just feel bad bringing them hungry especially since there are 2 of them!

Re: Daycare moms of infants

since he started, DS has been ready for a feed as soon as he's dropped off. It took a couple of days, but now it's totally smooth. He takes his coat off and goes right into the highchair.

do they have some sort of a sheet that asks when their last bottle was and when the next should be? we always discuss this everyone morning. jack does STTN but sometimes he takes his first bottle of the day at 545, sometimes 7 and that totally changes the rest of the day. Chat Icon

ITA!!! That's what daycare staff is for! Don't feel bad- it's their job to feed them, it doesn't matter when. Chat Icon

I guess my point was i would feel better about it if they could prepare, but they wont know until i get there.

Re: Daycare moms of infants

It really depends on the day. If I am rushed or running late, then they have to feed her asap when we get there. If I have time, I will feed her at home.

Ditto. Chat Icon

Once Dylan was fed by the director because three of the babies were hungry all at once and there are only two girls in the room. I would just let them know that would happen some days and don't stress it...

We feed DS before daycare because we can. But most of the babies there eat as soon as they get there. Don't worry about it, they are used to it.

DD was the same. Some days she would get a bottle before she left depending what time she woke up. Other times, she would be ready to eat when she got there.

DH would just tell them, "she is due to eat right now." They would get her set up and fed pretty quickly.

I used to nurse Liam when he got up and right before we left. Then I would have them feed him cereal as soon as he got there. I paid them a lot of money to do whatever I needed them to, KWIM? Don't feel guilty. Do what you need to do. I think it is totally fine to have them feed them.

My DH also feels bad about dropping off hungry kids. He gives the boys a "snack" before he leaves the house so they are not starving when they get there. He gives them a few oz and then the daycare staff feed them once about an hour or so after they get there.

Re: Daycare moms of infants

We leave at 7 am for work. When she first started daycare she was still waking about 5:30 for her first bottle, so we fed her.

With in a few weeks she was sleeping later (until about 7) so she goes right to daycare and eats the second she gets in the door.

ETA - I asked them if it would be a problem first b/c I would wake her to feed her before, but they said it was no problem.

Re: Daycare moms of infants

Thanks for posting this.
DS is 9 weeks old and starts daycare on Monday.. and my plan is to try to drop him off before his first bottle of the day (he sleeps 7-9 hours at night as of now)
My problem is most of the time that first bottle is around 6am... which is 10 mins before I have to get in the car to drive him to daycare for 630 dropoff. I'm not sure if I should try to feed him at 530am instead... it may be a little early? Was just thinking I may be able to change his diaper and put him in his carseat right out of bed so he will fall back to sleep in car.
Any advice on this situation?! I'm terrified for next week! Chat Icon

Ian gets his bottle at 7am and thats when we drop him off. Once he gets there we put him in his chair and give him his bottle.

Re: Daycare moms of infants

I always fed my son before daycare. I alwasy thought to myself, what if all the parents waited to have their children fed when they got to daycare? I did not want my son to go hungry ever knowing that I could have fed him before leaving the house. The teachers truly appreciated that he was alwasy fed before coming to school.

Yup, this is exactly what we did with Mason when he was in the infant room. He got so used to the routine that when I put him on the floor to take off his coat he'd immediatly crawl over to the highchair b/c he knew he was getting his milk

I felt bad too at first, DS was only 2x a week and his schedule was all over the place.

I tried to feed him when I could but, if I couldn't, they fed him.
