DC afraid of men

Anyone's DC afraid of men? DD is 9 months old and cries whenever a man besides her dad or uncle looks at or speaks to her. Yesterday, her ped called her "high maintenence" because she was afraid and crying. Is this common? If so, when does it go away?

My grandson does this. Whenever he is approached by a man other than his father, he cries. We thought some men having facial hair was what triggered it, but, my daughter has a friend who is clean shaven and he does it with him, also. We attribute it to men having deeper voices and a more "in your face" approach. It's just a phase. As they grow older, they'll get over it. For now, they need to let the child approach them, not the other way around.
