DC area people - looking for a restaurant/pub rec!
i know, i know - travel? food/recipes? ahh!
We're going to be on the mall Saturday and we're looking for an inexpensive restaurant with a good selection within close walking distance. 7 adults and a baby.
Thanks!

Just searched around the Mall to see where I've been.
Oyamel Cocina Mexicana 401 7th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20004
It's a 10 min walk, and it's tapas style. It's quite good. I remember them being quite reasonable.

Depends on what you mean by inexpensive and walking distance
There isn't a TON in walking distance of the mall if your definition of walking distance is what i think it is with a baby.
Your best bet is the Gallery Place/Chinatown area (don't be fooled--it isn't all Chinese restaurants! )
I'll go with the cliched Clyde's for now, it's a local chain with semi-inexpensive food.. probably a little more expensive than a TGIFridays.

There's also a place I loovveeee in Gallery Place, RFD, the focus is on their beer selection but the food is pretty good too: http://www.lovethebeer.com/rfd.html
And Sine, the Irish pub that's a chain (national? Local? Not sure)
Will continue to think for you...

There are a few sit down restaurants in Union Station. Capitol City Brewery isn't too far either.

I love Fado Irish Pub. Not too far from mall. Address is 808 7th Street NW so google to see if too far but this place is really yummy!

I work next to Union station, and maybe I'm biased because I can go to the eateries there on a daily basis, but the food is generally pretty gross. Cap City especially.

Okay, Chinatown I know
Bar Louie has good food. We went there for St. Patty's day. They have a lot of appetizers/small plates.
Fado is also good. Someone mentioned RFD. I found the food ok, but the beer selection is great.
Gordon Biersch has the most amazing garlic french fries
