This is horrible...Between that patch of the Northern State and the entire Southern State, I'm scared to drive anymore.  for their families.

I agree!
Sad, but totally, totally preventable. Another article I read said that neither of them were wearing seat belts.

I drove passed it last night on my way home from my school's science fair. I literally was shaking the whole way home afterward... I have NEVER seen such a thing before. to the victims.
I can't imagine having seen it first hand - the images on the news were devastating

This is horrible...Between that patch of the Northern State and the entire Southern State, I'm scared to drive anymore. for their families.
I think these roads are navigable if driven responsibly.
Of course, one has to drive defensively too, be aware of reckless drivers and react accordingly.

I agree!

They have no idea whether or not they were wearing seatbelts. Right now it's not something they can tell.

It's a very sad story. These kids HAD to have been going at least 100mph. Did you see where the speedometer was? On the ground ripped from the dashboard.

DH got in a serious accident RIGHT between those exits in October- same spot. He was driving the speed limit in the right lane and when a speeding car went to go around him- they clipped him by accident- and sent him off into a tree and a light pole.
Then, they drove away and left him for dead in his totaled car- trapped.
The Police said they were afraid to approach the car b/c they were certain they would not find anyone alive inside. SOMEHOW, AMAZINGLY, By the Grace of God... He was OK and escaped w/o any broken bones. He was unconcious and was slumped over his steering wheel- and remained unconcious for the ambulance ride to the hospital and the entire time they pulled him out of the car (which took almost an hour)...
He was sore from head to toe, had bruises EVERYWHERE and spent four days in the hospital but he had no major injuries. He still goes for PT and is in pain at times but he is- for the most part- A-OK.
I'll never forget when I got that phone call and not knowing what was going on. I'll NEVER, EVER forget how his car looked- OMG. It makes me so angry to think this reckless driver caused this and could have killed DH... and it makes me even more upset that he just LEFT! When he could have been dead.
So, when I heard about this accident I could not help but think of what happened to Vinny-- and I could not help but think to myself "why, oh WHY were they driving SO fast??"
It's just terrible on so many levels.
Thank God more people were not hurt or killed but at the same time- two lives is more than enough and such a tragedy.
These kids are so young

I was disgusted for a long time at the fact that the person who did it kept on going but even more that people just driving past kept going...
NO ONE stopped!!! The Police estimated that he sat there, trapped and unconscious in his car for about 10-15 minutes before the FIRST 911 call came in!!! And even with that- they traced the call (I have a close family friend in that Precinct who did this for me) and it was from a HOUSE behind the NSP... (sometimes the woods are not that dense and there are houses right there). The lady said she was doing her dishes and saw DH's car totaled and called...
NOT ONE person passing by called from their cell phone (and it was about 4pm so plenty of people passed)... I mean, what is WRONG with people?! Are we living in a society where we just don't give a crap or what?!
Unbelievable! OK, rant over 
But, thank you very, very much-- he is doing much better! Still has problems sleeping all the way through the night but he is so much better than he was.
