Dear Lady in 7C on JetBlue Flight 918 from Chicago to JFK

Dear Lady in Seat 7C,

You don't think I heard you loud and clear as you sat next to me just across the aisle? I'm sorry you felt like you were "just going to DIE because 2 babies were across the aisle from you." I didn't realize my 8-month old daughter who was smiling and waving at you would cause such anguish. Talking loudly with surrounding passengers about how unfortunate it was that my kids and I had to sit across from you did not make it easy for me as my DH and I flew with both kids together for the first time. Pretending like we didn't exist as you pleaded with the flight attendant in front of me to change seats because my infant and toddler where across the aisle from you on a full flight really made me feel good Chat Icon

And yes, my 2 year old son was quiet most of the flight and finally had a melt down at 11:15 pm during the last half hour of the flight. Could you blame him when the flight was delayed almost 3 hours and his bed time was at 7:30 pm in a different time zone?

Announcing to everyone that you're a hot shot surgery resident at Stony Brook and that you need your sleep more than anyone else on the plane is not my problem. My husband totally outranks you job-wise and could easily put you in your place and probably knows your superiors, but that's not the point. I took the high road because DH made me, but lady you need to get over yourself as you sleep with a pink satin blanket draped over yourself. The flight was only 1 1/2 hours. Get over it.

Signed,
Mom of 2

I think that is just outrageous that she made those comments even before anything happened. And who doesn't expect crying babies on a plane - that's like a given Chat Icon

I hope you had an otherwise good trip Chat Icon

On our way to Disney, there were 3 women behind us. They were louder than all kids in the plane combined.

Our DS was so quiet.

I guess the booze they indulged the whole 2 hour trip did help with their volume control.

Sigh. It's such a shame you couldn't check the children with the luggage.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Please, please, have your DH speak to her at the hospital about how she represents her hospital in publicChat Icon

DS was quiet as a mouse on previous flights. I think flying past his bed time threw him off combined with the terrible two's. I wish DH could track her down and give her a piece of his mind, but he works in a different hospital where they know the Stony Brook docs. Oh well, hopefully we'll never run into her again!

Crashing.

I personally don't have children yet, however I LOVE when there are kids around me on a flight, it helps distract me from my nerves! I bet your children were perfect and I would have even played with them on the flight!! :)

Ugh, how rude! I never noticed people commenting on kids on the plane near them when I didn't have kids, but now that I do i'm so aware of it. We've flown twice with DD (total of 4 flights) and have heard comments either about us or other people with kids every single flight. It's silly! I never minded when kids were near me on a flight.

The last flight we were on the lady across the aisle said (as I was getting a bottle ready for take off) "yea good idea... pop that bottle in her mouth and put her down for a nap." She said it jokingly to the guy next to her... turns out DD didn't sleep and she smiled and wanted to play with DD the whole time! Chat Icon

Re: Dear Lady in 7C on JetBlue Flight 918 from Chicago to JFK

We went through this on our way to Disney in April. I finally just told the lady in front of me that I didn't appreciate her making me more anxious then I already was! I also reminded here that I paid for 4 seats to her one, so she was out voted!

Flying is so stressful! I don't know why I am even considering it again!

How rude! It's so ridiculous that she was complaining about her sleep when it was a 1.5 hour flight.

it's such BS...people need to get over it.

flight, trains, busses, they are for everyone.

also, what if (god forbid) you were headed to a funeral? and had no one else to watch your little ones & they had to come?

I would have said that, even if it was a lie, just to shut her up.

I love torturing those types. Luckily, I usually am surrounded by parents, even business travelling dads. But occasionally I have had that type of traveller in front of me and I usually just ignore them. A few carefull kicks to the back of their seats is ok, though right? Chat Icon

Re: Dear Lady in 7C on JetBlue Flight 918 from Chicago to JFK

Even as a parent, I can totally understand the Chat Icon and Chat Icon from people (sometimes even myself) when you're near a completely out of control kid on the plane/train etc ........Even when the parents are doing everything in their power to calm the kid down, sometimes you just want to hang yourself.

But you do it in your head .........You don't make the person's life even more miserable by loudly and passive agressively letting the entire flight know how annoyed you are ........

And really? It sounds like they weren't even bothering her - so what the hell was her problem ??? you're better than me, I would have played her game and loudly told my kids that some people are just completely rude and sometimes you're just forced to listen to their self important ranting ........

i had a similar experience traveling back from london. i swear the crap started before we took off and i didn't know whether to cry or brawl.

luckily the ****** did get moved, and thankfully the man seated in front of her stopped her on the way stating, "lady, i really hope you did not reproduce" Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Dear Lady in 7C on JetBlue Flight 918 from Chicago to JFK

Crashing...

As a non-parent who flies all of the time people like that woman are just starving for attention.

Seeing it was Memorial Day weekend she most likely was not there for business and there for pleasure -- if you need that much sleep book an earlier flight because there are ALWAYS delays in Chicago.

I have said it before and I will say it again -- its not the kids that are the problem it is either the parent who isn't watching them or the drunk people who are the issue.

And anyone on a flight to and from Orlando must live in a bubble if they don't expect it to be filled with kids and families. Not sure what else they expect no matter their reason for flying!

I'm sorry you had to deal with this!! What a biyotch! Maybe she could have one of her surgical resident friends remove the stick up her a s s! It was only a 1.5 hour flight, that woman really needed to get over herself.

I have to fly to Greece in Sept/Oct. to visit my dad. DS will be 6-7 months old and it's because of people like that woman that I am dreading the flight!

ITA

even if she was a little aggravated, how rude of her ! It sounds like your kids were very well behaved considering the crazy delay. and after hearing her, you were probably so worried about your kids flipping out.
