Dear people on the treadmill at the gym...

I just need to vent... I cannot stand when people at the gym walk/run on the highest incline yet hold onto the front of the treadmill and lean back. Do these people understand that when you do this it puts your body in the same position/angle that it would be if you were walking without the incline. This is totally defeating the purpose of the incline. When you walk outside up a hill do you have some sort of contraption enabling you to lean back? Please stop.... This irritates me to no end. ok, I feel better now that I got that out. LOL

Re: Dear people on the treadmill at the gym...

yea i have to agree with you or the girls on the bikes flipping through a magazine. They annoy me more then juice heads.

I put the treadmill on level 6 at 3.5 and i am a fatty right now and i lean forward like i would when i hiked up hills.

The flipping through magazine though really destroys me, your skinny and doing that then why bother go to the gym? You think your really burning those calories? While I am sitting there dying trying to do the most with the least amount of time so i can actually not be there.

yeah, but maybe the person flipping through the magazine on the treadmill use to weigh alot?

I started to do the treadmill at work on lunch hour and I've been reading my weight watcher booklets while I do the walk part... i still have a good 75 lbs til goal weight but imagine that when I get there I'm going to have to keep walking to maintain it.

Re: Dear people on the treadmill at the gym...

I have to hold on sometimes..and I still get a great workout. I just hold on for balance mostly.

I also read on the stairmaster and definatly get a amazing workout, considering I'm drenched with sweat after 20 minutes.

No hard feelings though- I think everyone has gym "pet peeves". Mine are people who gab away on their cell phones and people who dont wipe down the machines.

I agree, we all have our own things that bother us. I also hate the cell phone thing but that bothers me in other situations too... Like when someone is cashing out at a store and continue their "life altering" conversations and completely ignore the person cashing them out, I think it is soooooooo rude. Although the magazine thing doesn't bother me, whatever helps.

Haha, love this. Holding on basically cuts off 1/3 of the calories burned as you are taking out all core work. If you can't hold your body up to do it, the incline is too high for you!
As a trainer, this irritates me to no end, there's not need to up the incline if you can't do it properly. It's all about how much work your body is putting out, not how high the treadmill is tilted up.
