decreased movement

Ok so i'm 37 weeks pregnant and for the past week i've noticed that the movement isn't as intense or as frequent as usual. I'm getting tons of different stories, some people telling me that thats normal towards the end, others telling me the baby is running out of room, and some telling me it may just have been the stress I went through this past week with BIL's passing and DH out of town for the week for his funeral.

Mainly i'm just looking for reasurance .. should I be worried that something is wrong with the baby. The nurse at my OB told me to just drink some juice and I should feel movement. I am still feeling movement it's just less then normal. My doctor also said if I notice that there is no movement at all for like a large chunk of hours to call the office because they might have to send me for a stress test. Has anyone else gone through this..... please let me know!

Re: decreased movement

Towards the end there is a lot less movement because the baby is bigger and, the space is cramped, and there is a lot less room for Chat Icon Chat Icon to move around!

Re: decreased movement

I felt less movement towards the end. with DD, I would get worried and I would poke at my belly until she poked back. If you are having movement, then the baby should be okay. the baby is running out of room!

Hang in there! My prayers are with you! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: decreased movement

Re: decreased movement

I'm almost 35 wks and can totally feel a difference but think it's quite normal. I feel rolling and jabs - but not the usual 10-minutes straight of kicking I used to get.

Re: decreased movement

I am 35 weeks and Chat Icon is not moving nearly as much as before. Now it's more "thumping" once in a while. I do notice that after I eat or drink the baby gets a bit more active so that's reassuring. When I asked the doctor about it, she told me to drink OJ and lie down on my left side for about 20 minutes. She said that baby is very cramped in that small space now and not to worry. Just keep an eye on it. Chat Icon

Two are correct:
The baby is growing rapily due to the end of your pregnancy there for there is less movement from her.

Re: decreased movement

No movement is different from less movement. In general, babies at term should move t least 4x/hr. Generally you should eat or drink and lay on your side to see ifthat helps. If after 2 hrs and no change, you should call your OB. Most likely everything is fine but its not worth it to take the chance.
The lack of movement can indicate a problem or even reason for induction/delivery like decreased fluid. Having the baby monitored iis easy enough and will give you peace of mind.

Re: decreased movement

well I couldn't take it anymore so around midgnight last night I drank a glass of orange juice and laid down on my left side..... I got 15 movements in a 45 minute time from so I feel so much better now. I will however be tracking it like a hawk every day from now till delivery. I got a little lax with the counting because she was so constant that I knew she was fine but now i'm going to try to do the one hour test a couple of times a day.
