Delivering at Winthrop?
Hey, everyone! I'm new to this board. I just found out I'm pregnant today! I'm due April 29th! We have a 2 year old daughter.
I recently started seeing Dr. Hanauer. Love her! I delivered my daughter at South Nassau and had a great experience. Now that I'm seeing Dr. H, I assume I'll be delivering at Winthrop. That is the only option, right? Just wondering if anyone can share their experiences at that hospital. Are there any private rooms?
Thanks!

Re: Delivering at Winthrop?
I was a Dr. H patient and yes, I believe she only delivers at Wintrop. I got a private room but I had to pay $220 a night for it. I had a C Section so the bill was for $880. I DEF. recommend getting a private room - esp. if you have a c section.
Good luck and you're in great hands with both Dr. H and Dr. Dolisi. Dr. Dolisi did my section bc Hanauer was off that night.

Re: Delivering at Winthrop?
I was with Dr. Hanuer as well, Dr. Dolisi saw me a lot at the end and they both did my c section. I had a great experience at Winthrop. I got the private room and would not have been able to handle the 5 day c section stay if I had not, although like Diana posted, it gets quite expensive.

Re: Delivering at Winthrop?
She is also my dr. Yes, she only delivers at Winthrop. Actually Dr. Dolisi did my c-section.
I had a private room (except the 1st night... not available!). I had an horrible roomate so I hated it even more when the private room was not available. They are 1st come 1st serve and there are only a few. You can only ask for it when you got to L&D. My advise is to ask for it as soon as you arrive and if they don't have one... keep asking the nurse for one. That's we did. It is $220 per night that you will have to pay but they are totally worth it. With my c-section it helped so much to have a quiet room to recover.

Re: Delivering at Winthrop?
I delivered at Winthrop, and had a regular room. I had a vaginal delivery, so I wasn't there for very long, but my roommate had a c-section and she was pretty miserable from what i could hear. The staff there was super-nice and helpful!

Re: Delivering at Winthrop?
I didn't have a private room - there were none available, in fact, the first night I had to stay in L&D since the maternity ward was full.
It was fine, I barely knew my roommate was there.
I had a very short stay. I delivered at 1am Sunday morning, and left Monday afternoon (I had the option to stay until Tuesday but chose not to).

Re: Delivering at Winthrop?
Yes - as Sophie said - KEEP asking for a private room. I literally just had my c section and was in recovery and asked the nurse to check and see if my request was approved for a private room. Turns out that the ten people I asked before that never processed it.
The recovery from a csection is not pretty at all. Not to scare you but you can hardly walk, there is tons of blood, and basically you are just in a hell of a lot of pain. If you are going vaginally I can't speak about how you feel.
I also spent the first night in a L&D room bc it was packed. They didn't think I would get a private room bc it was so packed but thankfully I did.

Re: Delivering at Winthrop?
Last time I was there - visiting last month, there was no room for private rooms. Maybe it depends on the amount of people in maternity at once.

Re: Delivering at Winthrop?
Dr. Hanauer is my doctor too. When my son was born I had a private room at Winthrop. It is on a first come first serve basis and I guess I was lucky enough that one was available.
