Delivery at St. Catherine's Hospital
I was wondering if anyone delivered at St. Catherine's in Smithtown and how the experience was. I'm planning on delivering there in July and I'm nervous.

I had a great experience as well.
My only "advice" is to ask for a room with a shower in it..........its really nice to have it in your room and not have to go down the hall.

I liked the labor nurses, but the nurses in the maternity ward were not very helpful.

Although I think it is a great hospital, I have to agree with this statement as well.
I gave birth to DD there in Dec 06. At the time, a good friend of mine worked there. While she was on shift, I was well taken care of - but after she left the nurses were so-so. I definitely found some good ones, but others were lousy (not terrible, just lousy).
All in all though, the hospital is very clean and nice and I am going back there again this time around. I wouldn't go anywhere else
Having a shower in your room is a definite PLUS!!
If you have any questions about it, feel free to FM me and I will answer anything you have!

Re: Delivery at St. Catherine's Hospital
I had dd the same week as katie. I also felt the nurses were so-so. My labor nurse from morning until 6 was soooo mean!!!!!!! Yet, the one from 6pm-10pm and delivery was awesome! The reason i said the first one was so mean was bc she was there for yrs and just didnt want to tell me anything. Sh would come in and poke, prod etc...but no talk. I would ask questions as well as my family and it was like we were bothering her. I had a 2 bed room but never had any roommates. DD was born nov 26th so i think many went home for thanksgiving. All in All it is nothing to write home about...it was pretty avg...IMO
wanted to add...I went into the nursery and they told me "heres Gilligan.." I was like no...its a girl and her name is Gillian"

Re: Delivery at St. Catherine's Hospital
I just delivered there this past August and found everyone wonderful...
Keep in mind though that I delivered vaginally after only 4 hours of labor..didnt have an epi...and this wasnt my first child...
I would highly recommend the hospital, doctors, and staff to anyone...I was suppose to deliver at Huntington up until a few weeks before I delivered and had to change doctors suddenly..Im actually glad that I did.

Re: Delivery at St. Catherine's Hospital
I had a great experience in June of 06. I was in the hospital M-Th because of my C-section. They were nice and helpful and not overbearing. They even let my family come visit me in recovery because there weren't many women in there. Good luck!

I had a great experience there in March of 06. They only thing I didn't like was using the communal shower down the hall

Re: Delivery at St. Catherine's Hospital
i delievered there in December, I cant say enough great things. My L&D nurse was amazing, the nurses in the nursery were so helpful, the aides were great to chat with, even the person cleaning my room was nice. Unlike other posters I had no issue with any of the nurses they were all helpful, but I will say that 2 of them told my Dr how low maintenance I was so maybe that is why I had not issues. I also didnt have a shower in my room but didnt see it as an issue.
I am glad that I chose to deliver there personally!
ETA: I even though their food was pretty good! And the lactation consultant Jennifer was very helpful and attentive as well!
