Dental Work
I am going to be having some major work done in the near future.. I am considering IV sedation for the first time. I usually just have the local done for everything.. I just had a tooth pulled a couple of months ago and it took 5 shots!!! I thought my heart was going to explode!!!! I am getting 4 implants done and I am thinking it may be better to do it while under IV sedation.. I am afraid though.. I don't like being nauseous and I am a vomit phobe... That is why I always go for the shot whenever I have any work done... Can you tell me how your recovery was after you got IV sedation? Can I get anti-nausea meds at the dentist? Thanks

Re: Dental Work
Sorry I have never had IV sedation for dental work but do you know if it's the same kind of Sedation they use for Endoscopy or Colonoscopy? Because if it is, then I was fine. No nausea. Actually woke up feeling like I had a refreshing sleep.
I don't see why you couldn't take an anti-nausea med before hand just to be safe. I would ask your dentist

It's the epinephran in the shots that makes your heart race. Talk to your dentist and they should be able to give you novacaine without that. I've had to get 4-5 shots and I don't mind. I'd rather be safe than sorry and be totally numb!
I've had IV sedation for getting teeth pulled and never had any nausea but the first time I had it I woke up totally disoriented and had no memory of walking from the procedure room to the recovery room. The last time I had it (not for dental work) it took the doctor fifteen minutes to get the iv in which wasn't fun either!

Thank you.... I am not a fan of needles so the thought of getting 5 needles again is not fun and with what I need done, I am thinking that not being totally awake is better... It is probably going to take an hour or more..

with 4 implants it will take more than an hour, especially if he will make you temporary teeth.

Re: Dental Work
I had implants done twice under IV sedation. I didn't have any problems after. My DH was there to drive me home. I didn't feel sick at all. I had the gas to remove the wiring when I broke my jaw. That made me feel loopy after for an hour or so. Good luck!
