Re: Desperate: What do you do to

you should be taking warm/tepid BATHS and sit in the water as it cools.. As the water cools, it helps to take your body temp down too

I did this when I had a super high temp- remember how sick I was at Devon's party??- This absolutely helped

No cold showers! Lukewarm only.

With my kids, we use cool compresses on the forehead. Alternate Motrin & Tylenol - but that's only if they are refusing to drink fluids.

In general I try to let the fever stay high because that your body is trying to kill off infection with a high fever & the temp needs to stay high. From what I've seen, lowering it always seems to prolong it.

Drink lots and lots of gatorade and/or ginger ale. Drinking is the most important thing. Take lukewarm showers, not too hot or too cold. take a multivitamin and extra vitamin C. it can't hurt. oh, and take your time getting up, don't get up too fast to avoid getting dizzy.

My grandmother swears that a sponge bath with vinegar is the best remedy. Worth a shot.

When I had a high fever once, my aunt told me to put a washcloth soaked in rubbing alcohol on my feet. I don't actually know if it worked but my fever did break shortly after.

I agree about the tepid baths/showers. And I have heard the same about piling on the blankets. It's just going to overheat you.

I would try to keep drinking the gatorade to replenish your electrolytes. Water also.

Hope you feel better soon!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Desperate: What do you do to

thanks guys - I got some broth down.

and It's definitely NOT a cold shower - it's tepid. Just feels cold to me!

DH keeps filling my water glass with 1 part gatorade, 3 parts water. I haven't had anything artificial in about 2 weeks so my body can't handle straight gatorade - I was instantly nauseous when i tried it!

I think I'm sweating it out again - fever's down to 100.6! Chat Icon

My mom actually has a book titles something like "Chicken soup and other home remedies" with home remedies for stuff.

One home remedy for a fever is walk/ stand in a bathtub of cold water. Dont shower in it, just have your feet covered.

Another is to eat lots of strawberries. I have no idea why, but its in the book.

We used to put a potato on our heads to suck out the fever ( cut in half ) and my mom still swears that it works but that is probably an old wive's tale.

We used to do this too, and it did help me once. It's worth a shot. I hope you feel better!

Nic you poor thingChat Icon
I'm glad it went down. I would have avoided the ER you'd be sitting there who knows how long.
Keep hydrated thats the most important. I've been there, its awful and all you can do is ride it out. The last upper resp. virus I had fever for days straight, itd go up and down and I tried every home remedy, tylenol, advil you name it.

Also dont bathe in COLD water, it has to be just luke warm and dont sit in in too long. Get under the covers!!!!
