Re: Detailed Look at the Stimulus Package (from NYT)

the 65% towards COBRA is going to be HUGE for us.... I was JUST starting to panic about how we'd manage the extra 1k a month when his severance was up.... but now it will be much easier pilll to swallow.

I WISH this was available when DH was laid off. We fortunately only had to pay COBRA for 1 month, but it was close to $2k for the family plan we needed (we have a daughter and I am preggo). The cost of COBRA literally ate up every penny of unemployment for us. I truly hope this helps some familys keep their insurance, which is so important, and be able to stay afloat for longer.

it will only from the AMT for us. They are allowing a little more to be exempt which translates to about nothing for us.

Otherwise, I guess I'm one of the people who doesn't get any help..I will just pay the taxes.

but, are either of you unemployed or having trouble paying mortgages?

that's who this is designed to help..those in "need"...not those that "It would be nice"

obviously if you are in need, I hope you get the help necessary to get you on your feet.

there's also that tax credit for married couples making under 150k/year... so that IS something for MOST people..

We will be helped in that we will probably need to replace my car this year.

I was very worried about teacher layoffs in NYC, even though I am safe. I hope this averts that.
