Devastated - Therapist and Perinatologist Recommendations?
Hello ladies,
My heart goes out to all of you - each one of your stories touches my heart and I truly wish you all the best and hope all of your sadness and suffering is over.
I suffered a loss this weekend at 14 weeks pregnant. It was a horrifying and traumatic experience and I'm having a terrible time dealing with it right now. I had a subchorionic hematoma (which are usually not considered very dangerous) but in very very rare instances, it can cause a miscarriage as it did in my case.
I'm wondering if any of you sought help from a therapist to help you through this and if so, can you can recommend someone who specializes in miscarriages/fertility? I would appreciate it greatly if you can FM me with info - I live in Nassau County on the North Shore, but any recommendations would be great.
Also, can you recommend your perinatologist? After having a previous miscarriage as well as a subchorionic hematoma with my last pregnancy, I'm thinking I could potentially have a clotting disorder.
When does this pain start to subside??? I know it's too soon to start feeling remotely better, but I'd love to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
If you made it this far, thanks so much for reading!

Re: Devastated - Therapist and Perinatologist Recommendations?
i live in bk so i dont have any info for your regarding docs and therapists...i do recommend going to a therapist though..it does help. I am one month from having a m/c at 20w (fetus measured about 17 1/2 weeks) and for me personally it has not gotten easier - however, time wise im am only one month out which isnt too long. i am dealing with very horrible anxiety and depression which my docs say its post pardum. so therapy is the way to go....
and i am so sorry for your loss...i really feel for you...please reach out if you need!!! xoxo

Re: Devastated - Therapist and Perinatologist Recommendations?
I am so sorry for your loss. I was just about 12 weeks when I lost my last pregnancy, it was terrible.
I would definitely find out if you have a blood clotting disorder, I have MTHFR Factor V, the reason for my first 2 m/c's, most likely, but not the last one. Possibly ask your ob/gyn for a perinatologist recommendation.
It will be 3 years in April. It's very hard in the. beginning, especially the first year, at least for me. I still have a hard day, on what would have been his (we knew it was a boy) birthday. It does get easier after awhile, everyone is different, don't feel pressured by anyone to "get over it", I got that from some people. You'll feel better when you do, and you won't know it, it will just start happening.
I went to a local MSW and it helped.
If you need to help, you can FM me.

Re: Devastated - Therapist and Perinatologist Recommendations?
I am so sorry. I recently had a loss too and I am still feeling devastated and it has been a few months for me.
I think we'll eventually learn how to deal with it but we will never forget it. I still hurt. I have thought about going to talk to someone but I think a lot of it is just post partum/grief and I think I am getting better as time goes on. Things are starting to look up for us and we decided that we are going to try again after we get back some test results.
I did see a peri and I am being tested this month for antibody/blood clotting/progesterone. I would see the peri, it can't hurt to be tested.
I am so so so sorry.

Re: Devastated - Therapist and Perinatologist Recommendations?
I'm so very sorry for your loss. I have only experienced very early losses(3 m/c after 4 rounds of ivf). I have a wonderful therapist who has first hand experience w/ IF. Her name is Mary Dennehy in RVC 516- 851- 4381. There is also someone in great neck - my friend loves her- Aviva Zigelman- 516-625-1617. As for peri. docs- I'm not sure but I think that is the high risk pregnancy docs right? I went to Someone at North Shore LIJ and also dr. Edelman at Mt. Sinai. Look up top docs in nymagazine and see if you find any there. good luck and hang in there:/ It's a living nightmare but hopefully one day we will be able to get through it:/ xoxo

Re: Devastated - Therapist and Perinatologist Recommendations?
You guys are awesome - thanks so much for your posts and for your support. It has been about 4 1/2 weeks since my loss now and, although day by day, it does get a little easier - there are still things that set me off and it opens the wound again....like tonight was supposed to be the night I had my level 2 anatomy scan.
to all of you!

Re: Devastated - Therapist and Perinatologist Recommendations?
I am so sorry for your lost. I had a lost at 14 weeks myself in 2009, so I know how hard it can be. I will say that I don't think I will ever be completely over the loss but it does get easier to cope. You will have your good and bad day.
I didn't see a therapist but my doctor and the hospital were ready to refer me if I wanted to see one. You should ask your doctor or the hospital for a recommendation.

Re: Devastated - Therapist and Perinatologist Recommendations?
I saw a mc therapist. Her name is Nancy Berlow.
And the peri I was recommended was Dr Kofinas. But I couldn't go see him bc he didn't take my ins.
After that I went to Dr Braverman and now I'm under Dr goldstein's care. Neither are peri's. But they are both great dr's.

I was going to mention Nancy Berlow to you as well. She is affilitated with North Shore. I had friends that saw her and really liked her. Also, there is an intense bereavement group offered at North Shore that is every continuing week for 8 weeks. This group was soooo helpful to me after the loss of my son. It was wonderful and my husband and I really bonded with the other participants. My group leader was named Ivy Diamond and she was great as well. If interested, I can give you more info.
