Devastated

I don't know how to post a link...

I've been crying for 3 days Chat Icon

After a year & 1/2 of trying and switching RE's, finally finding out what the "problem" was with me conceiving.... we got our BFP in August. I was in shock, but overjoyed beyond words! My husband asked me not to say anything in public, so I didn't. I did start posting a little here and there on the pregnancy board, and gave out my due date on the April 2010 Mommies to be.

I would be 13 weeks on Sunday, but I won't be. We were given the results of our CVS test and the baby has Trisonomy 18. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I asked if there was any way they made a mistake?? My name is fairly common, maybe they were reading someone else's chart?? I seriously can't breathe right now.

I just can't believe this is happening. We're so very grateful for our daughter. I always knew she was a miracle, she really was sent from heaven.

Someone once told me that babies choose their Mother's. When Danielle was born, I cried in the hospital and thanked her for picking me. I do still pray another baby will choose me ( and DH).

I'm going to the hospital today for the D&C. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
If you could spare a prayer today for my baby, I would be forever grateful.
If you couls spare a hug, I certainly could use it right now. Chat Icon

Re: Devastated

Thank you so much!

Does anyone know if one baby has this, if it's common for any following pregnancies to have the same thing?

(Sorry I probably am not phrasing my question right, I can't think straight)

The "theory" is that there is an increased risk. But some doctors dont feel that way. Essentially once you already have conceived a child with a trisomy then your odd's of having another child is 1/100...

Over the years I have spoken to several Geneticists who, while they will quote the studies & literature on the subject, dont really feel that way...

Essentially, we all have "bad" eggs. Some of those eggs become fertilized while most dont....

The one thing I would want to double check, which Im sure they did, was that it wasnt a tranlocation trisomy 18. Parents with a balanced translocation may have an increased risk of delivering a child with a trisomy.

I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. Edwards syndrome is such a hard diagnosis and definitely not something anyone wants to hear.

FM me if you need anything. It's been a long time since I studied this stuff but I can usually answer most questions...

Thank you so much!! This could be caused from a bad egg? They said it was caused when the choromosones were splitting, they didn't split properly.

I wanted them to double check and I'll be making sure again before 2pm today. Chat Icon
