DH makes me want to bash my head against the wall -H1N1 related
My DH is an EMT for the FDNY. He was, at first mandated to get the shot. Now, they have lifted that and he was going to get it yesterday.
THEN some DB at work told him that people have been parlyzed from the shot (source? NONE b/c they are stupid) and DH signed a form refusing it.
I don't really qualify, but he and DS do! Now he doesn't want DS to get it either.
I'd like to just get it for DS, but Ican't do that without DH knowing. UGH!

That is frustrating, I'd ask DH to come to the PEDs office with me so he can discuss his concerns with a DOCTOR rather than a co-worker and then do further research if he feels it is necessary. I would be stressing the importance of making an informed decision, not one based on heresay.
Although if he is anything like my DH (stubbon!) it'll be an uphill battle

My DH is a first responder too and he got it. He is in with way too many random people - way way way too many people on a very personal level to risk it. But I don't know how you convince your DH. I wonder what the stats are on how many are getting it in the FDNY...

There actually was a report YESTERDAY of a woman who is paralyzed as a result of the SEASONAL flu vaccine. I'll try and find the link.

I wonder if it is it, but my DH works overnights, so he usually is a day behind on news, you know? Thanks Darlene
He is still a moron

My other issue is that he works with a lot of single guys, younger guys (not that he is old) but they don't have kids....I want him to think about DS

My DH got his yesterday (he wasn't going to but, his BFF's mom is a nurse and she explained it to him and told him that he'd be stupid not to with a baby on the way).
I wanted him to get it because he lives in the firehouse a couple of days a week and who knows who's kid is going to have it and whatnot, on top of who he deals with outside of the firehouse.
Of the 14 people working in his Thurs night, 2 people got the vaccine.
Now I just need to find one for me!

The majority of the guys in DH's firehouse are getting it including DH. I think he's going today actually. I completely understand why they are getting being in such close contact with each other and the weirdos they deal with all day on runs. I'm still upset it's not offered to families. Esp. expectant mommies like myself.

Not even the people he works with bc they are insured and most likely going for routine medical care - the ones he is contact with on a run. He is dealing with people who may be ill in a myriad of ways, may not have health insurance and therefore not updated when it comes to healthcare in general, homeless people. Many of the cases of H1N1 are easily transmitted simply from one child passing a supply to another in the classroom and their germs along with it. But to be in contact with random people who are of various stages of health are all the more of concern IMO. (Trying to help make your case to your DH)

Thanks
I meant more that they didn't have kids at home to worry about when they came in contact with the patients, you know?
But I like your ammo too

I heard the chances of gettting paralized from these vaccines are one in a miliion. One and a million is very very random, you have a better chance to win the lottery, hit by lightening etc.. the chances of anythign are one in a million so this shouldn't deter people from getting vaccines. This is what I saw on the news.
