DH's dad - slightly awkward situation
DH and his brother are identical twins - their parents divorced when they were toddlers and his mother has since gone to great pains to make sure that they get equal everything - EVERYTHING is split down the middle, STILL at 36 years old! With his dad it's never really been much of an issue - he's always been in their lives, but more of pal than a dad, IYKWIM.
His brother and SIL have two children, the first of which is 2 years old. When our nephew was born (first grandchild, btw) his dad bought the crib. I'm 33.5 weeks along - my MIL offered to buy something for the baby and we suggested the crib, my mother is going to get us the stroller. His dad hasnt' offered - not once, no mention... Not that it matters, really, we basically have everything we need except a car seat which is probably what we would suggest if he offered - but I feel badly for DH. I think he's kind of upset and we kind of need to get the carseat in the next couple of weeks, so we can't really wait forever for his dad to offer.
I think we should just go ahead and get it - DH said he would mention it to his dad, but I think that's incredibly rude. Wondered what other people thought?

I think you should just get it yourself. His dad is not obligated to buy anything for you, although I don't blame you both for how you feel about the situation. If he hasn't offered by now- he probably won't.
