Awkward situation - UPDATED
At work, I usually bring back an iced latte or coffee from Dunkin Donuts after lunch. Well, one of the ladies from the office saw that I always came back with it and asked me if she gave me $, could I pick one up for her too. So I said sure why not.
Always gave me the $$ for it. For the past, let's say 3 weeks, she NEVER gives me the $ for it. A medium iced latte is almost $4 and a medium iced coffe is around $2. So I spend anywhere from $20 -40 bucks a week on that! I know I have my own bad habit (I do get skim milk though ) but I don't need the added expense of hers! I am starting to wonder if she thinks I owe her something...she has been here a while and is an assistant...I am a manager and I am sure she is aware that I make a lot more than her...so is she thinking in some weird way that she is owed or something? I dunno.
I want to say something but I don't want to sound obnoxious..and it would be too obvious if I just started not bringing one back.
I guess I can ask for the $ up front?
UPDATE 8/9: I went to lunch and only got myself an iced latte. When I came back she said to me "What, no coffee today? " So I said, oh sorry, I only had $5 on me. She said "I would have given you $"..uhhh...well ya didn't!

Re: Awkward situation
wow, how rude! i'd probably say you don't have the cash to cover two so could she give you the $$$ beforehand!
ETA: Does she ask you every day or do you just do it for her? If she doesn't ask, maybe she thinks you are treating her?

Re: Awkward situation
If it were me, I would say to her that while you don't mind picking her coffe up you really can't afford to pay for hers as well anymore so if she could just give you the money that she owes you that would be great.
ugh... you don't owe her a thing.. she is so wrong for doing this

You certainly shouldn't have to go up to her and ask her for the money..thats's not right. You are doing her the favor by picking it up in the first place.
I would stop getting it for her and when she questions you just say you didn't have the money to lay it out anymore.

Agree too.
I dont think it's rude if you stop buying them for her. I think it's rude if she *expects* you to buy them for her every day.

Re: Awkward situation
Thanks ladies!
That's what I will do - if she doesn't pony up the $ before I leave for lunch - I will not get her one.
Can you believe the nerve? If my DH found out he would be

Re: Awkward situation - UPDATED
I would never assume that my manager would want to spend $4 a day on coffee for me. Yeah, he makes more money, but he works hard for it.
If she is assuming that just because you are in a higher position you should buy her coffee, she is an azz.
She actually has a set of balls for even asking you when she didn't front you the money.
