diagnosed with GD
Just heard from my OB. My 3-hour glucose test results were elevated. I have a 2 1/2 hour appointment at the diabetes center at my hospital on Friday afternoon to meet with a nurse and dietician. I'll have to prick my finger daily to check my blood. bye bye Entenmann's chocolate chip cookies.... at least there's only 10 1/2 more weeks to go...

hopefully you'll be able to control it with diet. my dr. put me on insulin in addition to the diet. it stinks, but it is short term...

Re: diagnosed with GD
I have my screening for this next week - are there any symptoms if you have it ? OR who is at risk?

Re: diagnosed with GD
My friend had this-her sugar was always higher in the AM. Try to eat only protein for breakfast. She ended up having to go on insulin though

Re: diagnosed with GD
I had GD with my first and by the time he was 2 I was diagnosed with diabetes. So I can feel your pain. Are you going to the NSUH Center for Diabetes in Pregnancy? It is where I go.

Re: diagnosed with GD
Thanks for your support ladies. I'm just a little frustrated after getting the news. Type II diabetes runs in my family, but I had no symptoms and have always been thin (as are my family members with diabetes).
I'm sure the dietician will work with me on my meals, but what do you eat generally? I think you have to limit your fruit, is that correct? Lots of proteins and whole grains??

Lots of proteins and whole grains?? your nutritionist will give you a customized diet, but for me i have to have a balance of carbs, protein, veggies and fruit at lunch and dinner. mornings i can have carbs and protein, and for snacks i have carbs/protein/fruit here and there. fruits are considered "good sugars" and what i look forward to most.
the measly portions are the killer.

Re: diagnosed with GD
You did NOTHING wrong to get GD. You could eat candy bars and ice cream everyday and not have GD. It is just how your body reacts to the new levels in your body. I had GD and was on insilin and it totally sucked. The diet was hard and I cried A LOT, especially with the shots. It totally changed my life at that time..no more going out with friends, having to monitor every single thing I ate and what time I ate etcc....
I am here if you need any support at all!!!
