Diaper Change Help NEEDED....BAD!

DS is 10 months old. For the past couple months, diaper changes have become a wrestling match, and usually ends up with me chasing a little naked butt all over my bed to TRY to diaper him.... He twists, turns, cries, arches his back... You would think that it is painful for him. I've tried everything, every toy I can think of, things he's not "supposed" to play with, my cel phone, the boogie sucker, socks, his monitor... I've tried singing and distracting him. Giving him remote controls.... What am I doing wrong? Why have diaper changes become so difficult? Any ideas from any BTDT mommies, or mommies going through this right now? Is this a normal phase? How long does it last???? TIA!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Bathtime used to be our FAVORITE time of day, but now with the diaper changing fiasco that happens shortly after it no longer is.... awww , i think its a phase. Babies love being naked. I havent dealt with it personally yet, but im sure i will. But i have heard my sis have the same experiences with her 3 kids.

Chat Icon I think I might have tried that already.............. J/K! But this is how desperate I am becoming. And poopy diapers, forget it! There is poppie everywhere when we're done with one of those.... Very frustrating.

Re: Diaper Change Help NEEDED....BAD!

It is just a phase but while you are in it you have to muster up all of your power to get him to stay kind of still. I used to just grab DD's ankles and I wouldn't let go (especially with poop). She would cry but I'd just out power her and eventually she'd stop arching her back and trying to roll. She's so much better now.

I am still going through this - so I don't know how much of a stage it is.

But I did notice that you said you were changing his diapers on your bed - Do you think if you got a changing table that maybe it could help?

I use one with DD and at least in only confines her to the little space on the changing table, rather that him rolling and going everywhere.

I have heard it is just a phase but I am still wrestling DS at 17 months! Chat Icon
I have found that easy up diapers make the whole process much quicker though Chat Icon

Oh yea - one thing that I give DD is a toothbrush and some of the times she brushes her teeth while I change her diaper.

I am actually dreading this stage as I have encountered it with babysitting and my nieces. It's hard! So let us know what you come up with Chat Icon

Oh yeah, we have a changing table. I just haven't used it much since I caught him by one leg hanging upside down from it... Chat Icon That's why we moved to the bed............ Thanks for the advice!

Re: Diaper Change Help NEEDED....BAD!

I agree to try it on a changing table. I just changed Lily's diaper in her crib because I was getting her dressed and it was a huge struggle.
When I change her ont he changing table, she doesn't have as much room to wiggle, so she's more still. Not perfect...but MUCH better.

Our son does this too and screams like he is being murdered!!! I DREAD changing him and try not to let anyone else do it, for fear he may fall or get poop everywhere! DS only uses his pacifier to sleep, and lately I have been giving that to him while I change him.

I know it is a phase, but he is 17 months old and has been like this since he was around 10 months old!

I wish you luck!

Re: Diaper Change Help NEEDED....BAD!

DS has been doing this for a couple of months. He just hates diaper changes. I give him a cloth or a bib & try to get him to play peek-a-boo. It works like 70 - 80% of the time.

Re: Diaper Change Help NEEDED....BAD!

I'm looking for ideas/help too. DS is 9 months & has been doing this for about a month now. Whether the changing table, bed or at daycare, she refuses to cooperate. I hope it is short-term!
