Diaper Free?
I'm curious, has anyone tried to go diaper free with their child?
Personally, I can't see doing this myself, but I'm curious to know how it works and how it worked out for you.

Re: Diaper Free?
I let her go diaper free for about 20 mins after a bath. She LOVES it. I put down two of those drool pads and then put her down on her belly. I just make sure its not chilly in room. She did pretty good, no peeing or pooping.

Oh, that I do too. But this is different. Some people don't diaper their babies at all. They take them to the toilet, but I have no idea how you would know when to do this.

Re: Diaper Free?
It's called Elimination Communication. I've never done it, but I know someone who has. It's all about reading the baby's signals and getting them to the potty in time.

Re: Diaper Free?
Hmmm, I wonder what the signals are? I don't see any, at least for pee. I usually just check him when he's fussy or when it's been a little while.

Re: Diaper Free?
There was an article in Newsday maybe a year ago that looked into this. Supposedly, the women think they can read the signs of their babies and know when to take them to the bathroom. I don't know, seemed a little far fetched to me, but I have not read much more into it. What do they do overnight?

Re: Diaper Free?
We adopted my DD from China and none of the Chinese babies ever wore diapers. They wear "split pants" and teach them to go on a potty chair and a very young age, just a few months old. They train the children to go on command with sounds. When that sound is made they have to go and for the most part it works. As the children get older and are up and around they let them go anywhere they want. They just squat. Odd I know but a different culture....
We transitioned our daughter to diapers immediately though.

Re: Diaper Free?
I have a cousin who did it and I then read a little bit about it. I think it can be done with lots of dedication and holding the baby all the time. I feel guilty not doing it in a way and I sometimes wonder if I can pick and choose when to do it. I have never tried it. The cousin who did it was willing to do things that I would NOT do, such as taking the baby to the nearest place to pee, even if that is the kitchen sink.
