Diaper Genie smelling up the room...
The Diaper Genie has been great up until recently. The bag isn't even half way full and DS's room reeks of poop! I tried spraying Lysol in it and that helped for a day or two, but then it smells again. Anyone else have this problem? I know I've seen little stick on air fresheners made for it, but do they work? I don't know what to do other then empty it all the time, but I feel like that defeats the purpose of the thing!

I think you can't beat around the bush, if you leave poop in your garbage pail, the room and the bin are going to smell of poop. Especially once your baby is on solids. Good luck finding a solution!

I have had diaper genie, diaper champ, diaper dekor, they all smell once the kids start getting older and eating anything other then formula. IMO, they are nasty. I tossed them out in the trash. I bought serious stock in ziplock bags.

We went through 2 of them before DS was potty trained. I used bleach, lysol, febreeze, left it outside for 3 days... nothing worked.

I double bag the poopy diapers, either with those tiny bags they sell for disposing diapers or with left over garbage bags. We empty it out the dekor every few days, air it out completely once a week.
My only issue with the dekor right now, is that DS can open the toddler lock and started throwing toys in there

I have the diaper champ & use scented bags & have those air fresheners in there. It does smell when you open it up but does not smell up the room. Even when you open it to dispose of a diaper, the smell goes away rather quickly

When we were still using the diaper genie, I sprinkled carpet freshener in there..It helped a little bit. I gave up on it when DS was 1...

We don't usually have that problem but when we do, we add baking soda (maybe a few tablespoons) to the bag and that takes care of it!

Thanks, I'll have to try those suggestions. DS has been on solids for months now so it just weird that all of a sudden its an issue.

I know people on here rave about them, but they gross me out too. I take them and throw them in the garbage then throw them outside.

I stopped using mine - the air fresheners didn't work (i used the Arm & hammer by munchkin)
Even if we emptied it at the end of the day every day teh inside still smelled - so badly that when I opened it to empty it was unbearable

If it stinks I spray vinegar in it and air it out. Works great. For poop diapers I bring them right to the yard pail or flush the poo if I can't go out.

Same!! We buy scented bags from dollar tree (50 for $1) and toss in our kitchen garbage. We empty our kitchen garbage daily so it never smells. My ocd husband would lose his mind at the thought of days or more of poop diapers sitting in a trash can

This is the exact reason we didn't bother with a diaper pail this time around. It was great when DS was a newborn and his poops were minimal and didn't smell. But as he got older the pail got foul. Just gross.

I used it with my first but always flet like it was just smelly. So i buy the bags and wrap the smelly diapers and just put them in the trash. I change my garbage at least twice a day.

Me too! Never had one. All poopie diapers get bagged and taken outside to the garbage can.

That started on us about a month ago. Odd just sort of happened.
So all poopy diapers now go out into the trash.
Been in an apt so long it never even DAWNED on me to do that! 
Still some days it gets bad I just rinse, let air dry in the backyard, febreeze and then bring it back.
So far those two things have helped tremendously.
Oh and that she only poops at school except weekends helps too!

I have 2. No smell at all. Try washing it out and cleaning with windex. There is no magic to the thing... Maybe it just got dirty under the lid.
