Diaper Genies, is it really worth it??? Update:
Ok, so far all my mommy friends haven't loved the diaper genie.
DH and I are debating if we really need it. Luckily we live in a condo (have an outside patio) and a dumster right by the parking lot. We could throw out the garbage everyday.
Would you register for one? They seem kinda pointless to us, but am I missing something??
UPDATE: For those that got the Diaper Dekor, do you have to use their ded. bags? They only come in packs of 3??? That seems like that would get pretty expensives FAST.

No, but I love the Diaper Champ. I got a good 10 months out of it before DS diapers began to stink too much to use it. It was very convenient in the beginning when he was wetting a lot.

My friend said the same thing... that the diaper champ is way better.

Re: Diaper Genies, is it really worth it???
I'm not getting one. I plan on keeping a diaper pail next to the Curby can out my side door and throwing them right in there. I know it might get annoying but I don't want one of those pails.

Re: Diaper Genies, is it really worth it???
I used diaper champ first few months, then stopped. Once the poops got stronger odor, i wanted them out of the house quickly so just tossed into shopping bag and took out.
But defiantly worth having with newborn b/c they wake up all hours of the night with dirty diapers.

it's so inexpensive, i got the diaper genie II which got really good reviews. if not, it was only $25, so i am not too worried about it being "worth it"

As of right now, we're not registering for one or planning to buy one. We plan to just throw the diapers out in plastic bags as he is changed.

Re: Diaper Genies, is it really worth it???
i personally hated the diaper genie. We used the diaper champ at the day care i worked at, and sometimes (for the older kids) if the diapr was messy and the poop seeped out the sides of the diaper, poop would get stuck in the sides of the champ and it was hard (and gross to clean. I dunno. I see no reason to store poop. I just throw it out!

THats what we did with DD and thats what we're going to do with the , the thought of a whole bunch of dirty diapers in one place grosses me out.

Re: Diaper Genies, is it really worth it???
i love the diaper genie!
i had all intentions of throwing out the diapers as they came along, but with a screaming newborn that NEVER happens for me! i change the diaper 10 times a day some days! it keeps the room clean and smell free and we empty it at least 2 times a week.
it's not about "storing poop" it's about convenience when you have a newborn.

ITA! I have the Diaper Dekor- and I really like it alot. I'm amazed at how well it keeps the poop smell in.
Now that her poops are alot stronger- we change it fairly frequently now- but in the beginning it was really great.

Re: Diaper Genies, is it really worth it???
We have the Diaper Dekor in Lily's room upstairs, and at almost 15 months old, we still use it. I change her diaper in the morning in her room, and throw it out up there. Lucily, she doesn't poop at night, so the diapers don't smell. Downstairs, we have a changing table for her with a regular garbage pail and we have to empty that one a lot more.
One other thing to think about....once babies start to get more independence...they get more curious... Lily tries to play with all of the garbage pails...so I'm really really grateful for the security of the Dekor in her room! Downstairs, she grabs the diapers out of the garbage pail sometimes....gross!

I know its not about soring poop, but thats what *I* oretty much winded up doing and when I would go to change the genie, after it was full, it just about knocked me over, (the smell) lol. I guess if you changed it everyday it would be better. Oh well.

Re: Diaper Genies, is it really worth it???
We registered for the Diaper Dekor after reading the recommendations in Baby Bagains. We live in a 3rd floor apartment and while we do have a balcony I'd rather not have that smell like a poop factory!

Ack to the Diaper genie. Will you really keep soiled diapers in that plastic thing for a long time anyway? Poo Poo to the Diaper Genie I say!!!

Re: Diaper Genies, is it really worth it??? Update:
I have the Diaper Genie II which I love. But for me, it is convenient since the nursery is upstairs and we don't have to take out the (upstairs) trash everyday. I don't think you will need one in your place being that you can just bring the diapers into the kitchen or throw them in a can on your front porch. Just my opinion...

Yes, I've only used their bags. I haven't found any alternative (although I admit I haven't really researched it).
I also like that they now offer "green" bags that are environmentally friendly.
