Re: Did anybody suddenly become allergic to something...
Yes..
All of a sudden i'm allergic to apples, peaches, cherries, pears...pretty much all fruits like that.
My mouth gets all tingly, my throat starts to close, and I can feel my lips swelling up.
It's weird b/c I can still eat all kind of melons.

My aunt was severly allergic to a bunch of stuff (had to get shots all the time) and when she got pregnant they almost all went away. Maybe it happens in reverse too.

YES! Dh became allergic to the pollen once we moved to Va. He gets really bad allergies!!!!
In your DH's case, I wonder if the pollen in VA is different?

Yes. My DH was put into the hosiptal with a bad case of hives and it turns out it was allergies to certain foods that he didn't have a month ago.

I too developed an allergy to fruit like this about two years ago out of no where. The insides of my mouth become swollen and very itchy. I've never been officially tested, so I'm not sure EXACTLY what ingredient in these fruits does this. Like you, melon, bananas, and some other fruits do not give me this reaction. Any idea what it is???

I have no idea either. I had gone to an allergist about my seasonal allergies, and briefly told him what was happening when I ate fruits. He said that it was definately a food allergy(DUH) and gave me an epi-pen just in case I needed it. I was never formerly tested either.
My mom thinks that it may be the pesticides that are sprayed on the fruits. Maybe thats why melons, bananas, and oranges are okay. B/c you just eat the insides of those fruits.
It really stinks b/c I want a pear or an apple sooo bad. I'm tempted to peel an apple and eat it, and see what happened, but i'm too chicken.
Let me know if you ever get tested or go to a dr. for it. I'm curoius to know what they may say.

Re: Did anybody suddenly become allergic to something...
You're probably right. The pesticides are on top of those fruits and melons, bananas, kiwis, etc. are protected by a skin/covering. That definitely makes sense. I go to the allergist weekly for shots for my seasonal allergies, and will mention it to him next time I go. Thanks!!
