Did anyone ask to do a sono for gender early?
So my DR told me I have a sono at 12 weeks and then not till 20.
I am wondering if my doctor will let me sneak a peek at an appointment midway to see the gender...
Would it be wierd/rude to ask??
I know they can usually tell the gender by 14/15 weeks.....
Has anyone asked?? What was the outcome.
I go to Great Neck OB/GYN Dr . Kaufman if that helps

I see Dr. Kaufman! I didn't get a 16 week sono. I asked. I'm patiently waiting for March 9th and my level 2.

Re: Did anyone ask to do a sono for gender early?
you can ASK, but not sure if your Dr will. I'm guessing probably not.
I asked my Dr because I only had a scheduled sono for 8wk and then 20wk with nothing inbetween. She said no, because they're not accurate enough before 20wks. I ended up feeling nervous about some odd pressure and she did do an extra sono for me at 17wks but wouldn't even PEAK down there. lol. I was so annoyed.

I use the same practice (LOVE THEM). I didn't get a sono at 16 weeks. At my 12 week appointment the sonographer was willing to guess but we are team .

I wound up measuring 14.5 weeks at my 12 week sono. She asked if we were finding out and we said yes, so she said if she saw anything she would let us know. She made a guess. We'll find out if she was right in a couple of days!

right? I kept thinking "Is it so hard to just LOOK?" Even if it's not accurate, it would still be fun to have a teaser at that point. Whatever. I found out 3 wks later anyhow.

Yeah but my OB still based my due date on my last period. They only measured me ahead by like 5 days at the first sono, not a full week (I was technically 13 weeks at my 12 week sono). Basically my due dates went from the 23rd to the 21st to the 17th to the 14th! Either I ovulated early or this kid is growing at lightning speed!

Re: Did anyone ask to do a sono for gender early?
At my 12 week Sono I asked the Sono tech to tell the gender. She wouldn't even give me a guess; she said it was much too early to even determine that.

We went to Impact at 16w because I didn't want to wait until 20w - you could always do that!

Re: Did anyone ask to do a sono for gender early?
I only had one at 12 week....can't wait till 3/18 for our 20 week sono!! My BF had twins and they did a sono at 16 weeks but wouldn't tell her the gender till 20 weeks since it's not 100% -- it was a good thing cause in her chart at 16W the Dr. wrote down boy and girl but at 20 W they saw 2 boys

Re: Did anyone ask to do a sono for gender early?
my sonographer guessed at the 12 week one - she said it's probably a girl - she said she's been doing sonos for 30 years and can tell what the lines eventually form. She did say not to paint the nursery yet! We find out the gender in 2 weeks at our 20 week sono! Can't wait to see if she was right!

Re: Did anyone ask to do a sono for gender early?
I found out at my 12 weeks sono. It was pretty obvious that it was a boy. I have the picture to prove it. The sono tech said she hadn't been wrong in 20 years and she was sure it was a boy. Once again at my 20 week, he was VERY obvious about being a boy. I had mine done at North Shore Hopsital. I think if the people with all these years of experience doing sonos (20 for mine, someone else said their's had 30 years experience), say that they are confident in their "guess" then I trust their years of expertise. Mine was correct! I don't think it's too early if they can get a good look and the angle is right-as was the case with my son.

Re: Did anyone ask to do a sono for gender early?
I went to the same dr too. But wasn't 100% happy and so I left the practice for another one... It just to happened that I left at the 16 week mark. So I did get a sono, but they didn't tell me the sex until my level 2 sono.
I don't think Kauffman was going to even do a sono at 16 weeks. And the new dr doesn't normally either... I only had one bc I switched.

Re: Did anyone ask to do a sono for gender early?
I think you can ask but I doubt they will. They usually don't do sonos at that mid-appt - unless there is an issue or unusually bleeding or something or you are high risk. It may be an insurance thing too, they usually only cover a certain # of sonograms per pregnancy type deal.
BUT MAYBE YOU WILL GET LUCKY?!?!

Re: Did anyone ask to do a sono for gender early?
At my 12 week, the sono tech said she would do a gender check at my next appointment which was at 15 weeks, 4 days. She said she doesn't do it for everyone, but knew that I had two step-sons and one son and that DH was hoping for a girl. I got the impression that she does do it often enough though. The front desk scheduled my next appt. with doctor and with sono tech with no problem or question. She was SO nice. We found out at 15 weeks, 4 days.
