Abby was 2 days shy of 16 months before she walked independently. 18 months is usually the cut off, but if you feel strongly enough, you can always get your DC evaluated.
Leslie, was there an obvious progression with Abby or did she just get up and go one day?
She did not cruise for a great length of time. But one day she took three steps and the next day she was on her own completely walking clearly down a long hallway at day care and then there was no turning back.

As you know we are in the same position with DS. I spoke to my ped who gave me the number for an agency. My ped was not sure that he would qualify but I figure that it can't hurt.
Is he walking holding ur hand...Chels is FINALLY doing that!!!! but still def prefers crawling everywhere! See I wish my ped gave me a number he is making me wait it out...
Yes, he will walk holding our hand. As soon as he falls down he has no interest in getting back up to walk more At that point he only wants to crawl. I don't think your ped has to give you a number. If you feel like you want to call you can (I think?).

my ped thinks that she's just cautious and it's a confidence thing..so he's not sending her to be evaluated...can I get her evaluated without a peds referral?
Jen, this is my DD too. She walked at 14 months, but she had been "trying" to walk since we took her out of daycare at 10 months. You could tell she wanted to walk, but she's VERY careful.
I wouldn't worry just yet. You're the mom, and you need to do what's best, but don't stress out. You know her best...and if you think it's a confidence thing, go with your gut. She'll do it in her own time, especially since you said she's barely hanging onto you when she does walk.

I got my DD evaluated at 14 months and she qualified. It wasn't that she wasn't walking, but I just felt that she was late on her overall gross motor skills from about 9 or 10 months or so onward. She did not crawl until shortly after she turned 1. She didn't pull to stand or start cruising until 15-16 months. She finally walked at 19 months!!!
She qualified for services at 14 months - she had low muscle tone. Basically, she just needed more work and more time to hit her gross motor milestones. But once she hit them...well, now at 2, she runs around like a maniac!
I would definitely get your DC evaluated if your concerned. Worst case scenario, DC doesn't qualify.
Thx, see DD crawled at 7.5 mos pulled to stand and started to cruise at 10 mos, my ped thinks that she's just cautious and it's a confidence thing..so he's not sending her to be evaluated...can I get her evaluated without a peds referral?
Well, I am in NJ so it might be different, but we did not need a ped referral.
