Did anyone give birth while sick?

I am due any minute now and both my kids have strep, fevers & coughs! I'm just waiting until I catch it Chat Icon And my husband isn't feeling so hot now.
If I do get sick and go into labor... what can I expect? Anything different?

This is just a nightmare for me right now Chat Icon A couple of days ago I was wishing so hard for my water to break and I am now hoping this baby to just stay in as long as possible.

Re: Did anyone give birth while sick?

I did with #2--my older DS had bronchitis and so did my mom who was staying with us. I wasn't as bad as them but had a horrible cold w/cough. And then my DH caught it when we were coming home from the hospital. I was a nervous wreck but the ped kept reminding me they get our antibodies and my little guy never caught it. Hi- congrats!! I can't believe you have that little time left!!

When I had DD#2 I was really worried. DD#1 had a runny nose for 2 months (that was allergy) but right when I was ready to deliver it turned - and she ended up croupy - the ped wasn't sure if it was severe allergies or a virus (she had no fever) but she was croupy. She ended up having to stay at my parents house for a week and couldn't see me or come to the hospital. Luckily neither DH nor I got sick, and she was better in about 7 days.

If you have a fever, they won't allow the baby in your room after delivery.

This is true unfortunately. I was sick and had an emergency c section and I developed a fevers after the surgery. Not sure if it was because I was sick or because of the anesthesia (I was put under). They would not let me see the babies until I was fever free for 24 hours- they were in the NICU though so not sure if it is different for a reg delivery.

Same thing here. I had a cold that unfortunately turned into a fever after delivery and DS was taken to NICU until I was fever free.
