What a horrible tragedy!
And what a wonderful organization they were working for. I worked there as a teen. The world lost 5 special people in that crash I'm sure.
I was thinking of you when I heard it on the news this morning.
My DH worked for them too for years!
Funny, I was thinking of you and your DH when I heard it. He was a staff member there when I was a volunteer.

I "know" the dad who lost his two daughters. I put that in quotes because I don't know him personally, but he is a colleague in my field - I've met him, interviewed with him more than once, have been at professional org. events, etc. When I saw his face on Newsday.com and put two and two together...ugh, I wanted to vomit. I cannot even imagine. I don't ever want to have to.

does anyone know the condition of the 2 survivors, last I heard, one was stable, not sure of the other
ugh, that family, to lose TWO of your children
the mulhalls are their cousins so they lost three family members and one is in the hospital. This whole thing is horrible
ETA: i read that on the UR website but am not seeing it anywhere else so i don't know if it's true or not.

This is heartbreaking......... I feel for these families. As a mother I cannot even imagine what the parents are going through. In all the pictures they only show the father and his other children it is just so sad

OMG, I found out that a girl at my barn (who I just started to let ride one of my horses because she doesn't own one of her own) works at ANCHOR now and so does her brother. They are absolutely devastated.

Yes. It is so awful.  The two sisters live down the street from my friend's parents, and were friends with her cousin. Have they given a reason for the crash yet? I know that alcohol was ruled out. It sounds like they were all nice kids from nice families. So tragic.
so far they don't know - I hope it wasn't a cell phone related thing - they were on their way to the camp for work at 9 in the morning!!!

I had a long conversation with the father of the girl from my barn. Obviously this is just what he said, and I have no personal knowledge of it: He said that friends of theirs were right behind the accident. Someone cut of the car with the counselors in it, going from the left land all the way over right to exit. The friend's car (that wasn't involved in the accident at all) swerved and missed any accident. The counselor's car, obviously, was not so lucky. The aggressive driver who cut them off probably doesn't even know it was his/her fault. Never stopped or looked back.
What's it going to take for people to start driving safely? I'm tired of everyone justifying speeding, using cell phones, and driving aggressively. There are other human beings on the road with you. Precious people - daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, grandparents, friends, loved ones. While accidents will always happen, ones caused by things like this are completely preventable. I really wish people would stop driving like they are immortal...

This is what happened to DH years ago -- someone going too fast went to cut him off but clipped his car sending him from the left lane on the Northern State veering off the road into a tree and a pole... we were SO lucky he survived - he was in the hospital for four/five days but he was OK. He had to go to PT but nothing that was serious. We were so lucky - the State Troopers said it happens all the time and they thought, by the looks of Vin's car, that he was hurt worse or... I remember thinking, all that just to change lanes going too fast? What a shame. Of course, the person who did that to Vin fled just like in this case.

I noticed that too. I have not seen the mom once and wondered how she was managing to stay out of pics? I did read about her, but I did start to wonder where the mom was.

My mom works at the hospital where the two survivors are, one was in peds ICU and the other was in peds. The one in peds was hopefully getting discharged when my mom was there, and the one that was in ICU is apparently making great progress. Mom said that she asked the person in peds what happened and they said that someone cut them off, they lost control of the car and it skidded across the highway into a tree or pole (I can't remember). She said it almost cut the car in half The survivors were the ones on the drivers side of the vehicle. I feel so sorry for all of the families involved. What a terrible tragedy

They've both been out of the hospital for at least a few days. The driver was only hospitalized for about 2 days, and the more severely injured passenger attended the funerals today and yesterday.

thats just so sad. I wonder if the person that cut them off even knew they created an accident and killed innocent people? I wish people would consider others lives before speeding and driving like a-holes.

I read that the boy was also from FP, a student at the University of Scranton and a Chaminade alum. You're right though, so much of the attention has been on the girls.
