Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
Is it tacky to do that?
I did not want to be surprised. I wanted to be involved in the planning. For my bridal shower I was surprised but I wanted to help my mom plan this one.

Re: Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
I picked the date LOL because we have so much going on. On wait, I also mentioned the place I would like to have it I saw the final proof of the invite ...they wanted to make sure I liked it. So I know the date, time and place but I think its fine because you're gonna be 8 mos PG...you're going to feel huge and want to know when the shower is so you can look and feel your best. IMO anyway. They also asked for my opinion on favors....so I told them what I liked. I dont think there is anything wrong with it personally.

Re: Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
I didn't know when it was, but I planned a few things. For example, I made a frame with some baby decor for people to sign.

Re: Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
Yeah that's a reason I didn't want to be surprised because I don't know how i'm going to feel when i'm 8 months PG. So I want to be prepared and make sure I look nice and presentable...LOL

You can know the date, but actually planning it is tacky. Give "suggestions" to the proper people but don't actually plan it yourself.

Although i am not pregnant yet, I totally disagree that actually planning your shower is tacky. I plan on very much being part of the planning of my shower. No i won't actually go and book the place, but i want to plan the date, who is invited and where it is.
After the craziness of my "surprise" bridal shower happened there is no way I would ever want to be surprised again and not involved in the planning.
I know many woman who have helped plan their baby showers - more then suggestions and i don't find that to be tacky in any way, shape or form.

Thank You!!!
My Bridal Shower surprise was craziness too, it was not my mom's fault, I blame the nosy people in my family than can never mind their own business. They all put their two sense in and I think my mom got bullied into doing what they wanted. Not this time! These people are dealing with a PG lady with hormones let them try to bully me! LOL LOL LOL

Same here I don't think there is anything wrong with knowing or having a little input.

Re: Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
I knew the date and kind of told them to keep it on certain weekends, and I gave one idea of a book wishing well and of course a guest list. Other than that, I knew nothing about theme, place or invites/decorations....
I wanted to be somewhat surprised with all of that!

Re: Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
i picked the date, the restaurant, games and made the guest list. I also did all the favors, invitations and my thank you cards. I didnt not have a choice for writing on the cake. For my bridal shower I was not involved but since my sil is due a week after me and my mom had to plan two showers I asked that I know about it.

Re: Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
I did not plan my bridal or baby shower but knew the dates, only because I figured it out. I would have liked to have been more involved but they wouldn't let me. My main thing was I would definitely like to know when it was so I could at least dress properly and look good! Imagine walking in to place in raggity jeans and sneakers and having not showered? I would have been mad!

I think having some involvement is not tacky at all. After all it is about you and your likes and dislikes and who you want there, etc...

I agree!
I know the date (it's this Sunday) and where (a friends house). I am somewhat involved in the planning- my DH took care of the catering. It had to be done this way because my bridal shower was a mess (long story short- my sister threw it but decided to not invite a person she wasn't friendly with who I am friends with). So now with the baby shower i said- i will pay for the food so I have say in who gets invited. My friend offered her house (she's neutral).

Re: Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
I did b/c my mom cares for my elderly grandmother and really didn't have the time or energy and my MIL is out of state (and we have really different taste.) My mom was really upset that she needed me to do it, but we didn't tell any of the guests, and I acted surprised when I walked in for the benefit of my grandmothers and my older aunts who were really into the whole thing.
ETA: I have no sisters, DH has no sisters, no SILs for either of us and my female cousins are still in HS or college, so there just wasn't anyone who could plan it for my mom than me.

Re: Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
IMO, it is tacky to have the invite come from you. If you want to do the planning, that is fine, but the invite technically should come from someone else.

Re: Did anyone plan their own Baby Shower?
I agree also. If you can secretly plan it that is great. But I would have someone else "throw" it for me. I also would not announce it either. You don't have to look surprised, just look pleased with the work "others" have done for you.
Hope you have a great one!!

I agree to a point with this. I feel though that a couple can host a baby shower too. My sister and her husband moved out of state for a job and made a very limited number of couple friends in the other state. They hosted a baby shower BBQ where they had everyone over to celebrate their impending arrival and friends brought baby gifts. In no way did they say bring baby gifts in the invitation, but more of a soon to be baby party.
I believe nothing is really tacky, everyone's situation is different - it all depends on where you are, who your friends and family are and what you want.

Who said the invitations were coming from me??? Just because I'm helping in planning my shower I never said the invites were coming from me. FYI my mom is hosting it so the invites will be coming from her.
