Spinoff to Shelly's post - anyone have time to read?

If so, what are you reading now and how long does it take you to get thru it?

I am still on the last Harry Potter from the summer - I ony get to read a few pages a night if I'm still awake - I'm hoping to read more in Florida...

The only time I get to read is on the LIRR but only when I am not using my Blackberry.

Right now I am reading Atonement.

Re: Spinoff to Shelly's post - anyone have time to read?

DW and I spend about half an hour just before going to sleep, just to read. Right now, I'm reading "Edison Trait", it's a book on how to work with divergently thinking children. Even though DS isn't very far into the divergent thinking realm, the book has definitely opened my eyes on how I can work better with him. After reading several chapters, we have never had a fight getting him to go to sleep, whereas before the book, I would often "fight" with him to get him to cooperate.

I also manage to read some magazine articles in the bathroom. I used to hate doing that, but sometimes that's the only chance I get, so 5 or 10 minutes every so often will get me through my Popular Science magazines... Chat Icon Chat Icon

i try to read for a few minutes every night before bed. on my nighttable right now: Super Babyfood by RuthYaron and Freud and Beyond by Stephen Mitchell. I guess that would be a typical selection for a psychiatrist considering feeding her baby solids Chat Icon

I wish. Between working OT, running home to see Christopher for a half hour, eating dinner and seeing DH, I don't have the time. I wish I did. I love to read, I miss it so much.

I read before I go to sleep while in bed. Right now I'm reading "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". I can usually do about 1 - 1 1/2 a month of a book that size.

I read at night after DD is asleep.

I'm really into a book called "Twilight". It's part 1 of 3. It's fantasy fiction about vampires, I think it's geared towards teens but I LOVE it!!

I still read most nights. It does take longer to get through a book now. Right now I am reading...
Until I Find You by John Irving and How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization by Thomas Woods Jr.

Re: Spinoff to Shelly's post - anyone have time to read?

I used to read 5 books a week when I commuted to work...lots of time on the train. Now if I finish one every two weeks it is a big deal. I am on maternity leave so you'd think I would have more time but between feedings, changing diapers, wash, and dishes there is no time for ANYTHING!!!!

I love John Irving, he is my favorite author ever. I loved that one...

I should say I am reading Good Dog by Anna Quinlan and I am hoping to try to get into some of it today.

I'm reading the new book from Oprah - The New Earth or someting like that.
I read on the train on Monday's and when I get into to bed at night and that's about it. It's one of the things I miss most - I used to be an avid reader.

Re: Spinoff to Shelly's post - anyone have time to read?

I read alot, mainly at night before bedtime! It takes me ages to read a book but mainly because I only have time to read a few pages a night.

I do belong to a book club and we meet every six weeks or so (there seems to be a baby boom amongst the Chorlton Bad Mothers Club, so we are a bit higgledy piggledy at the moment)

I am reading a Kate Atkinson one now, its just okay. I also dip in and out of the latest Haruki Murakami short story paperback, sometimes it just to surreal for me to get my head around.

eta..if I am reading a book I am really into, I will plow through it in about a week. My mom left me the Kite Runner and I got through that quickly.

I didn't have any time to read for myself when I worked since I'm a HS English teacher and I was too busy rereading The Merchant of Venice for about the 12th time Chat Icon Now, that I'm home yes, I certainly do read. Laundry and dust be damned! My excuse? I'm "modeling" desirable behavior for the girls. Chat Icon

Currently, I'm reading The Queen's Fool and it is taking a while. In the end, it will probably take a month.

My mom was a high school engish teacher and my sister and I love to read from watching her read growing up, so I think that is a good idea!

One could always tell I was the child of an english teacher, my maiden name was Kathryn Linton.Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to Shelly's post - anyone have time to read?

I love reading and even though I don't read 10% as much as I do, I still try and read often. I'll take 20-30 minutes while Bella is playing with DH, or after she goes to sleep, and also the LIRR is my sanity for reading (I read the papers everyday, the only way I have any idea what is going on?)

I just finished Tina Brown's Diana book, which was a long read, but I love the chick-lit and I am gonna pick up a historty book next I think.

I also have Eastern Promises, which I haven't started. Reading has always been a lifesaving thing for me, I love to escape in a book...I can't imagine not being able to.

I still read as much as I have been for the past few years.

Almost done with A Tree Growns in Brooklyn.

I read the book club book every month, and usually one other book, sometimes 2.

I read every night in bed, it actually helps me unwind and get sleepy. I just finished My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult and I am currently reading Emily Giffen's Baby Proof.

Re: Spinoff to Shelly's post - anyone have time to read?

I feel like I have no time at all to read... It's terrible... I even have trouble keeping up with the months in, "What to Expect the First Year". DS is ten months today, and I haven't even finished "Baby Laughs" yet...
