did anyone take classes at the hospital?

my friend is signed up for a bunch.

part of me thinks it's just giving money to them.

i have a friend who does child cpr so i would go through that with her again. and the only other thing i would like is maybe speaking to a lactation specialist. but maybe i would do that once i give birth?

suggestions?

did anyone take classes at the hospital?

I did, but they were all free. And by free I mean included in the cost of giving birth there.

Nope and after the birth of my daughter, I don't think I missed anything by not going.

I took a breast feeding class and it was the best thing I did.

I took a baby care and cpr class- both were extremely beneficial for us. Id say if you dont mind spending the extra money, then go for it!

I took baby cpr, baby care basics for DH since he never even held a baby before DD, breastfeeding class and lamaze. All were awesome and all had a few helpful tips.

I agree. If you don't mind spending the $ then do it if you have the time.

We did a hospital tour, childbirth class at the doctor office, baby care basics class at the hospital. Last thing is we are signed up for a breastfeeding class in a few weeks at the very end of the pregnancy.

We both don't know anything about babies and figured it was worth it if we get a few takeaways.

Ditto.
As far as childbirth classes, the nurse told me how to push in like 5 seconds. In the heat of the moment anything I learned in a class would have been out the window anyway!

Re: did anyone take classes at the hospital?

I did lamaze with my first. Was interesting - and I felt like I understood more of the process of labor…..but I would have been fine without it. Any of the breathing techniques went out the window the second the pain kicked in.

I took a general "newborn care" class - mostly because my friend teaches it. Again - it gave me some confidence that I knew what to do in general - - - but it didn't make me mom of the year. Chat Icon

For the second time around - I'm not doing a darn thing aside from counting the days till it's over.

I am taking the first time childbirth class this weekend at good Sam but I did take a bunch of classes. I took them at babies r us though because they were free there. I took infant cpr, pet and infant safety, baby basics class and a breast feeding class. They were all free so I figured why not just take them. I felt like they were worth it but again I didn't pay for any of them.

I refresh in cpr & I go to a breastfeeding class with the baby.

I have experience with birth, but could see how an orientation class would be useful if one did not.

This. I would also take a CPR class. Now that my LO is eating stuff I constantly panic about him choking. It's something good to have under your belt.

I took baby care and CPR with my 1st. Def take a CPR class, they are worth the money. The baby care was more for hubby, he had never been around babies before so it was a good class for him to take.

Re: did anyone take classes at the hospital?

I did a birth class with DD#1 and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. It wasn't expensive though. $30 and lasted a few weeks. It was not at all about teaching you how to breathe and push. It went into everything. It prepared me for what to expect during labor and delivery, how the hospital routine basically works, what kegels are & the importance of them, they also taught us about basic infant-care (how to bathe, wrap, blow out nose, etc, etc). We also went into CPR & breast feeding. We had a Q & A time and a hospital tour, and were given little goodies (like diapers and baby blankets and other things you need). I also very much enjoyed being with people who were also expecting, as it's always nice to meet new people. I don't think it was DIRE, and had it cost more I probably would have skipped it, but I would definitely recommend if somebody asked me. It taught me a lot and made me feel more prepared and comfortable and secure going into a scary unknown situation. I wouldn't take it again of course, but for first time moms and dads it's great! I think it might even be what helped DH so much during delivery. He's VERY squeamish and vomits or faints just at the sight of blood. We were sure he'd pass out during delivery. He even had to leave to get fresh air a couple times during the class because of certain topics and model displays and videos. lmao. But it definitely helped desensitize him I think, because he did GREAT!!
