Did anyone turn the car seat forward at 20 lbs. BEFORE 1 year?
DS is so tall...and I have to squish him into the car seat b/c his legs are so long. He was 20 lbs. at his 10 mo. check up but the dr. told me 20 lbs and 1 year but he is definetely taller than most 10 mo. olds and closer to the size of a 1 yr. old I think.

Oh please don't. His spine is not developed enough to keep him safe in a crash -- babies have bobble heads. DS is 24 lbs and 15 months and is still rear-facing because it's the safest way for him to travel.

DO NOT do it!! Even though he may be bigger, his neck isn't strong enough to withstand a strong force snapping it back. Even adults are safer rear facing!

I recently attended a CPR class and we were told regardless of weight, wait until the child is a yr old to turn carseat.

DD was 25 lbs and very tall also at 10 months, but the Dr. Said NO WAY to turning the seat because her neck was not developed enough. It was not worth the risk to me.

Think of it this way: (From one tall kids mom to another)
Even if his legs are squished, wouldn't you rather him injure his legs in a crash instead of his spine? (My doctor posed this question to me.) CHances are, he won't injure either, but just in case.

I posted a response to a similar post not that long ago. There have been NO reported injuries to the legs of rear-facing infants of any age. There are way too many stories of DC who are seriously injured or worse if they are turned around early.
