When do you turn the convertible car seat ?
I know some say rear only to 20lbs AND 1 year, but the manual for convertible said up to 30lbs rear facing is ok.

Rear facing is the safest way. Assuming that your child's legs aren't uncomfortably hitting the seat in the backward facing position I would leave them there until you need to turn them around.

I'm not turning DD around until she gets close to the maximum rear-facing weight limit, or her legs are bent so her knees are near her chest. A little bent is fine, as long as she is relatively comfortable.
