It was extremely eye opening. I found it sad that they were defending the "food."

right? It was sad.
Even the principal giving Jamie a hard time about brown rice not being one of the 2 breads that needs to be served but that pizza counted....what!

I saw part of it and set my DVR to tape the show when it's on. I thought the radio DJ was such a jerk!

They were defensive because it is hard to take criticism. Imagine if you lived in the fatest town in America with the highest mortality rate.
Change is hard. The lunch ladies will learn new things and change, but it will take time.
However, while pizza isn't the ultimate breakfast, it is much better then a muffin or donut!

it is on the show's website too.
Yeah I couldn't believe they were so resistant to wanting to offer better foods - and the bread and rice vs pizza

Re: Did ANYONE watch Jamie Olivers Food Revolution??
A plain donut has about 185 calories. Does a pizza have less than that? I wouldn't think so. Why would they even serve pizza to children for breakfast anyway?

calorically it may be higher, but it has a few things a donut doesn't...it has a serving of protein (cheese) and a serving of veggie (tomato sauce, also replete with great antioxidants/ lycopene)
people are so hung up on calories. that is not the end all be all of healthful eating.
I love Jaime. his Jaime at Home show inspired me to finally create my own veggie garden.
of course people will be defensive..you even see people on the boards get defensive when food and nutrition and kids are involved. it's human nature. ignorance keeps you from feeling guilty (directing this at the LUNCH WOMEN...NOT AT ANYONE HERE) and feelings of guilt generally cause people to lash out.
hopefully once they learn the right ways and feel empowered, they will embrace the change so desperately needed.
people should also check out "You Are What You Eat" on the Beeb. I love that show.

I understand that, but they were down right nasty, as was the DJ. It's one thing to take criticism hard, it's another thing to shoot down everything Jamie was trying to help them with. They attacked him at one point over that stupid article.
