Did anyones child develop an allergy to dairy over time?
My son has been having stomach issues for I would say for about 9 months. He just turned 4 in November. He also has recently started getting hives on his face, and on his hands, wrists and arms.
He was blood tested, and scratch tested for allergies and nothing came back. He also had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and it just showed minor irritation. Tried prilosec and it did not do anything. Tried a probiotic, and after 2 weeks, he was still the same, then I found out it make contain dairy, so I stopped it.
His ped thinks, even though the tests didn't show it, that he has a dairy allergy. We have been limiting his dairy (he drinks almond milk, doesnt eat yogurt anymore, and rarely has cheese) but as of Thursday, he has been completely dairy free. I know it's only been a couple of days, but yesterday, in his sleep, he broke out in bright red hives again.
Now these "hives" don't really go away, they just become less raised and less red. They kind of look like excema, but people who are very familiar with excema tell me its not that.
I am just so confused. Not sure if I should bring his to the dermatologist? Also, in regards to dairy, he was on elecare until he was 12 months because of blood in his stool...but had been fine ever since with every type of dairy until this all started.
If you got this far, that you, I am just so confused. I am hearing different things from everyone...his ped, his GI, the allergist, people are trying to help...and not sure what to do.

Did he recently have vaccinations? My dd broke out in hives twice about a month or so after her 4 year boosters. Her eczema also came raging back after being dormant for about 1.5 years.
Also, it does take a few weeks for the proteins to get out of the system if you are doing an elimination diet.

Re: Did anyones child develop an allergy to dairy over time?
Not sure but when I BF I had to cut out dairy. DD#1 was okay when started milk but always had mushy looser stools. Then after stomach bug around 18 months vomited when we tried to give her milk to drink. We cut out milk for a while. Ped insisted she was intolerant. We were after a period able to give limited amount to eat but not drink. She would complain on and off it hurt her stomach or made her cough. We would cut out for a while. At 3.5 she woke covered in hives. After an elimination diet, and finally allergy testing we discovered she was allergic to milk and several other things like chocolate. Allergist was even surprised when she tested positive. Recently we have been able to give her things milk is baked into like a cookie or gold fish. We avoid all milk to drink, all cheese, yogurt, no butter on veggies. As long as we don't overdo it with the baked things she does well.
