Does anyones child have a peanut allergy?
Johnny may have one. We don't know. We picked up an epi pen today until they conduct testing...
He ate a small piece of a PB cracker and got hives on his chin...
Just curious! How did you know they were allergic? What were signs?

Re: Does anyones child have a peanut allergy?
Both of my DD's are severely peanut and tree nut allergic.
We didn't know until we had them tested for other things.
Until last week we didn't know the severity of DD1's (only that it was considered anaphatic thru blood work and skin pricks).
Two little girls at her daycare ate peanut butter and apples before bedtime. They didn't bath that night - Went to daycare in the morning as usual - shared a toy with my DD1. The right side of her face and eye immediately blew up so swollen and with hives. It took 2 doses of benadryl to get her face to stop swelling. Thank God it wasn't an anaphaltic reaction.... but you can see how sensitive reactions can be.
Can't wait for public school.

My DD's are in school with a couple of children who have severe peanut allergies. I think there are 4 in their grade alone...the school is really really good about keeping these children safe...AND..good about them not feeling out of the ordinary (sorry I couldnt think of a better word)..all the children take the allergy very seriously..Both my girls have been in class with these DC and it has taught them a great deal about allergies etc..

Thank you so much for that. I spent all last week going back and forth with her allergist.... and talking to other moms in the wiating rooms - They all kept saying - Wait til grade school... No one cares. It scares me to no end.
I feel so lucky because DD's daycare immediately took action and instituted a new hand washing policy. I provide the products and they clean hands before any comes in. I think they got really scared too.

Hives on his chin is probably a good indication of an allergy but until they do the skin prick test and bloodwork, you won't know the severity.
Carry Epi Pens and Bendryl - Everywhere.
Some helpful links:
FANN - Food Allergy and Anaphatic Network
PAK - Protect Allergic Kids (its a local group on LI and a very good resource)
