Did anyone's DC ever have a rash only on exposed areas (arms, legs and face)?

DS seems very sensitive to the heat and sun. He gets hot very easily. Since it has been warm out, he gets little red bumps on his legs and arms. I thought it was just heat rash. Last weekend, we spent a lot of time outside. On Saturday, DS had a horrible, bumpy rash all over his arms and legs. He also had a small rash on his face. He's still very itchy. The rash is mostly in areas that are exposed. DS seems to be more itchy when we're outside in the sun. The rash looks more red when we're outside. Now, the bumps look more white.

I don't think it's related to the suntan lotion. We use California Baby lotion and he never had an issue with it last summer. We've also used it this year without any issues. I thought it could be a sun rash, but we went to the pediatrician yesterday and she said a sun rash wouldn't be bumpy and whitish. The pediatrician had no idea what caused the rash. She thinks it is some type of contact rash. Right now, the only thing we're doing is moisturizing the area.

I feel terrible that DS is uncomfortable and I have no idea what could have caused this reaction. Has anyone had a similar experience? Did you ever figure out what caused this?

That sounds like an allergic reaction to the sunscreen...even if he didnt have an issue before-I think they can arise at any time

The pediatrician said it was unlikely that DS would suddenly develop an allergic reaction to sunscreen. I've been using other California Baby products since DS was a newborn without any issue. It's so frustrating b/c their products are supposedly free from common allergens. If it is the sunscreen, I'm worried that I won't be able to find one that he can handle and is free from potentially harmful chemicals. Chat Icon

Try earths best-that is what I use on my very sensitive son and works great. It is frustrating though. Was the CB old? Or a new bottle

this just happened to my DS last week, but it was a sunscreen allergy. We only use california baby on him and his daycare teacher put waterbabies on him by accident and he had such a reactionChat Icon We brought him to the doctors and since it was only exposed areas to, we knew it was the sunscreenChat Icon

It hasn't happened to my baby but I am allergic to fertilizer. Were you in an area that may have recently been fertilized & limed? Commercial grade fertilizer makes me break out in rash like mad. Just a thought

I was using a bottle from last year when I first noticed the rash. I've been using a new bottle the last few days. The rash is still there and it's itchy, but it does look better than it did over the weekend.

We spent Saturday morning at a playground in a park, which was when the rash really became noticeable. The rash is still there, but it does look a lot better.
