Did anyone's DC have the tear duct probing NOT work??

DS had the procedure done almost 2 weeks ago. His eye looked great for about a week, and then it started to look all red on his eyelid again like it did before.
At first I thought maybe it was is eczema because he had a really bad breakout around the same time, but now I'm not so sure.
I was never told there was a possibility it wouldn't work. IS this even possible? I'm not sure if I should take him to the dermatologist or the ophthalmologist.

DS is having his done on Wednesday. However, the opthamalogist did say it works for most children but not ALL children. Could you let me know how your sons surgery went??? I am nervous about DS"s!

Did they just do the probe or did they put tubes in as well? Our doc was just going to do the probe, but said it does not work for some babies. She said putting tubes in works more often but sometimes those can fall out as well.

If it continues to be red I would call the opthamalogist and ask them their opinion.

Oh No. I'm so sorry that you don't think it worked. I would call Dr. Cossari's office. I know they did say it can take a few weeks to see a difference. I would def. follow up with him. Chat Icon Chat Icon

The surgery itself went fine - we were in and out of the hospital in less than two hours. By the time we got home it was like nothing had even happened.

Just the probing - and afterwards he said everything went well - there was a membrane that he opened up, etc.

I really am conflicted on whether its his eye or his skin. His eczema is TERRIBLE right now. I guess I'm going to be making a call to both doctors. This poor kid.Chat Icon

It can't hurt to give them a call and have them check it out. Chat Icon

Lauren I know nothing about the tear duct thing but for the eczema the ONLY thing that worked for Ronan was using Ceravae cream morning and after bath and prescription steroid cream or lidex when it gets really bad. But I think it was the ceravae that made a big difference. You may be able to get a coupon on their website..I buy it at CVSChat Icon

Thanks, Melissa. I did buy the CeraVe lotion after seeing all your post about it and I used it like 4 times a day on him. His back actually seems to be getting better, but his face is just awful. That's why I'm not sure about the eye.

We met with the opthamologist when DS was 9 months old, but his blocked tear duct cleared up 2 weeks before his 1st birthday. When he discussed the procedure with us, he said it has a 90- 95% success rate.
