Can a baby get a clogged tear duct at 8 weeks or are they born with it??

My DD has had a clogged tear duct in her left eye since she was born. Now all of a sudden her right eye is tearing and has alot of yellow gook just like the clogged one, but I thought it was something you had at birth, not something you develop? Anyone know?

my daughters eyes didnt start gooking until she was 6 weeks old. i remember, cuz i she woke from a nap with all this yellow stuff coming form her eye, and i took her to ped. he said it was a clogged tear duct. it was really bad fom 6-12 weeks i would say. now at 6 motnhs, one eye still occasionally gooks

Does she have a cold? When DS was sick he got a boogie in his eye and it turned into pink eye and the gook was SO gross and hiseyes were puffy. His eyes were gooking before they were pink too.

Yes, definitly possible. All three of my dc's had it as infants and didn't start until well after 6 weeks. My two dd's cleared up eventually while my son had to have surgery to clear the duct at a year old. I know my ped would tell me to massage the area and put warm compresses on it. HTH.
